I think it quite likely that everyone on this list will enjoy it - more later! Minimal one word Silo review: HYPNOTIC Paul Rabjohn was a-wondering >>>>wonder if the 2 vien tracks were recorded at the first letter sessions? Later in Vienna (7-9 Feb 97) - hence the title. They were recorded for the same radio station that Bruce did 'ORF mix' for! >>>>maybe that was the base material for those poppy hafler remixes? I think the Hafler Trio tracks were made from elements of the track 'The First Letter' from 'Vien'. However the Brainwashed site reckoned it was a remix of 'Footsi-Footsi' - its radically different to either & it certainly contains samples from 'The First Letter' at the very least! Does anyone know for sure? Kevin? Odd description of H3O mixes - Poppy? There is a beat at least! Those who haven't heard Wir's 'Vien' single (on Touch) should check it out - imagine an extended amalgamation of Reuters & Over Theirs but more intense & noisy. 'The First Letter' is my favourite Wir track by miles. Changing the subject to Captain Beefheart (sorry forgot who said this) - >>>>mind you, i'll have to do without "Grow Fins" for a while yet!!! Let 'em grow! Swim! Its very good - short of cash then go for the Trout Mask demos double album (all good instrumental rehearsals + China Pig) or the excellent later years compilation of live, radio harmonica in the skeleton key, demos. Despite being limited, all 3 vinyl sets & the 5 Cd box still seem to be available. Kevin Eden also bought it so 2 Wire fans here were big enough Beefheart fans to deem it a worthwhile purchase - - the only beefheart album I don't have is 'Unconditionally guaranteed' which is one of his 2 weakest ones. Wire were also partial to a bit of the magic band. Favourite is perhaps 'Doc at the Radar Station' but also trout mask, lick my decals off, safe as milk, ice cream for crow are all near perfect! Others are patchier - i prefer the more oddball tracks to the pop/soul directions he occasionally dabbled with. Oh yeah, big eyed beans from venus is alone worth hearing clear spot for, and click clack elevates the spotlight kid - there's a cheap CD reissue with both these albums which might be a good starting place for the curious who are hungry but sure ain't weird. Other recommended listenings this week>>>>>>>> >>>pan sonic - aaltopiiri (Blast First) >>>2nd gen - And/Or CDEP (NovaMute) >>>Lee Ranaldo - Dirty Windows (Barooni) - if you ever wished Sonic Youth would make a record as haunting as Bad Moon Rising again - one of them has! & >>>A Blue Cat with No Ears smashing the city at Bar Centro on Monday night. Sunday 6-11 in Rockworld manchester Pelicanneck have an 'Off Peak' event - remote viewer & graham massey (808state & toolshed) plus dj's #2 in. Lock up your replicas! HMHB...novelty joke band whose song titles were amusing for about 15 minutes ...until you heard the records. Wire...phenomenal influence on much of what passes for left-field modern music. Status comparable to Velvet Underground etc. No contest, mate! Mark (not talking about football, especially involving raggy f***ing scousers who got played off the park, got away with two blatant penalties and scored with their first plausible shot on goal in the 87th minute......) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jan 2001 02:17:04 -0000 From: "scott kellock" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] HMHB - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2001 1:42 AM Subject: Re: [idealcopy] The Wirral > Scott, > > << Well Done Tranmere....congrats Nigal Blackwell and the boys! a band who > come a close second to wire "Half Man Half Biscuit" , > What do you think ? >> > > HMHB...novelty joke band whose song titles were amusing for about 15 minutes > ...until you heard the records.
