To anyone who doesn't know, Made to measure is a series of soundtracks to various projects, recorded and released in the 80's by Crammed Records. This one has Minimal Compact, Tuxedomoon, Aksak Maboul and Benjamin Lew, and is very very good (there's also another Minimal Compact Made to Measure - Lowland's Flight I think it's called [excellent]). Anyway, on the back of the CD there was a list of other people appearing on various other Made to Measure projects, one of which was a certain Colin Newman - does anyone know of anything by Colin on the Made to Measure series? giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 15:38:06 +0200 From: "giluz" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] OT - Free music editing software! > If you visit garbage.com, in addition to the usual > band info, photos and such, there is a link that > allows you to download a free version of Acid! Sonic Foundry's Acid is the most amazing piece of sound software that's been released in recent years. Nothing groundbreaking about what it does - it's the speed and the way in which it is done that makes it so good. The best looping interface to have ever come up, it does make it all seem like a child's play. It uses minimum resources and its rendering capabilities are amazingly fast. Unfortunately, it only exists for Windows - there's a piece of software called Phrazer which claims to be the Acid for Mac, but it's far from giving the full capabilities of the original. I don't know what capabilities the free version has, but with the full version you can work with as many samples as you want (depends on your RAM/CPU but you don't need much to get a fairly large amount of channels). I think you can buy the basic version for something like $60 (as far as I know, the difference between this and the full version is just that with the basic you don't have effects. Since the effects capabilities on the full version are not that spectacular [only 2 FX sends on all channels together] the basic version should be enough for anyone). cheers, giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 20:10:14 -0000 From: "scott kellock" Subject: [idealcopy] Colin Newman/ Wire Rarities Having looked out my vinyl wire collection to give it an airing I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a hold of Colin Newman's Commercial Suicide and "It Seems" on cd format.I also have "So It Goes" Promo and a Test Pressing of "the first letter" if anyone is interested in swapping. They're run by committee, and insofar as acquiring membership usually entails nomination and going before the committee to commit onesself to good conduct, they provide something of a safe haven for (predominantly older) people for whom the local pub culture can prove a bit unpredictable and 'youth' orientated. Hope that helps. I think there were one or more songs on this particular 12" but I don't remember. I think this 12" is reproduced in its entirety as the bonus tracks on the Deadly Weapons CD (one of my two favourite Minimal albums. The other one's Figure One Cuts). I think My Will doesn't have anything which isn't featured on Raging Souls (I remember not buying it when it was released so I must have had a good reason). I know nothing about the other two singles (It Takes A Lifetime & The Scent of Love). I've been to the Crammed site (www.crammed.be) and couldn't find any Made to Measure which featured Colin. However, it didn't look like the full list, and just from looking at the albums I knew, they didn't mention all the participants (Minimal Compact aren't mentioned on the description of MTM 1, for example). Does anyone know of the David Cunningham MTM 31 - Water? cheers, giluz ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jan 2001 09:19:15 +0000 From: Mark Short Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Commercial Suicide Creaig Dunton wrote: > > And secondly, is the Patrick Codenys credited for "digital consultant" the > same from Front 242? I always thought they were British (mind, I was never really into them, at least not until that remix collection was released). giluz ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V4 #22 ******************************
