I wonder just how much that would cost?! Only buy all the Fall albums if you have very, very deep pockets (and as Mark said, avoid most of the compilations as they are either a) crap or b) crap. > As for recommendations, you won't get > a consensus on this list, that's for sure! Heh heh. Well, I have a range of Fall albums and have come to the conclusion that my favourites are Levitate (most would disagree, but I thought it was great) from 1997ish, Perverted by Language from 1983, Nation's Saving Grace from '85 and Infortainment Scan from '93ish. That bunch also gives an idea of the very different sounds that band have had through the years. The only one I have pre '83 is Grotesque, so I can't vouch for any of the earlier albums, although what I've heard is pretty good, if very frenetic! :) Craig. ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://welcome.to/wireviews News, reviews and dugga. Actually, there should be slightly *less* that what's on Cracked Machine, unless it's changed since I got the text across. >>I've only ever seen the Wir videos and, >> yes, they're pretty bad " Can't agree with this at all, although I can see that the Kilburn footage of Wir might lead one to suppose it. " Most of the comments I've had re: that live period are pretty negative. I personally don't think a great deal of what I've heard via various means, but of course 'being there' helps immensely. One useful thing about those gigs was that they messed with the mixes, giving an insight into what a more 'in yer face' First Letter could have sounded like. I'm tempted by it cos the first two albums were brilliant, put production was a bit shitty (do the CD's sound any better?) But Ten quid for 3 CD's seems like a bargain! As far as other stuff goes. Hex is a great album (those two sets of drums!) And Shiftwork is good two (so there!) Beware though, as has been said, some of their "non-standard albums" are a bit dodgy. Oh yes, there's one called "The Collection" and I'd recommend that one as it cover quite a long period of time - should be good as a guide to which Fall period you'd enjoy the most.
