Subject: [idealcopy] RE: idealcopy-digest V4 #15
I think my 2nd one was an old Fall album (pre-Brix) - I
remember a friend of mine taking the piss and saying what a waste of money
it is to get the Fall on CD, because back then, when people still used to
buy mostly vinyl, you only bought CD's whose sound quality was supposed to
justify the purchase.
Speaking of The Fall on CD. I have a Fall CD (one of VERY many), which
actually jumps! Well, the CD doesn't skip, the tracks jump! It was obviously
mastered from the vinyl version of the album, and whoever did it, wasn't
listening to the damn thing when he did it. The LP jumps, so the CD
recording does! Can't remember which CD it is off hand - but it's either
"Fall in a Hole" or "A Part of America Therein". I was going to return it to
the shop, but the problem would have been on all copies of the CD, and it
seemed to me that they would be unlikely to get the recording sorted out
properly, so I hung on to the one I had.
RJH I have the CD-Rom "Free-speech..." as, I assume, many of us do - I think
it's still available. In fact, it was produced by one of the list members.
To be honest though - the video is a much better thing to purchase. It
sounds far better! It is more expensive (is it still #30?), but it is worth
the extra. I often play it - with the sound routed through the hi-hi, but
hardly ever play the CD-Rom.
