Well, it kind of fits in with the main theme behind the album and the SSP track itself, ie: Thatcher's Britain and the yuppie. I thought it was an okay piece of packaging design until mine fell to bits. Getting the CD out is a bugger as well. Okay: I agree; it was a shite idea :) C ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://welcome.to/wireviews News, reviews and dugga. Luckily, most of my players deal with them okay. They're still around - but mostly as CD ROM give aways. There's a special 3" format where they cut-off the top and bottom portions so that the overall size is that of a business card. Cheers, Paul >> ///// i tried ac marias 3" "one of our girls" in an adaptor in my hi-fi , the slight extra height (caused by the "lugs" on the adaptor) made it snag and jam , i had to dismantle the cd player (arcam) to get the disc out. so i've not bothered trying since. my car has a front-loading cd player and that won't take one either. i have a ghetto blaster with a "pedestal" to stand the cd on , that actually works. i ended up buying a cheap 12" of silk skin paws so i could actually play the thing ; i really like the cbi2h version.p ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 13:25:23 EST From: PaulRabjohn@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] packaging 3x12"..going off topic In a message dated 13/01/01 14:17:25 GMT Standard Time, squonk_upholstery@yahoo.com writes: << A substantial percentage of Metal Boxes self-destructed on their way across the pond. Just thought I'd remind any listees who live in the North West of England that I shall be 'DJ-ing' at The Kitchen Sink every fortnight from Wednesday 17th Jan. The Kitchen Sink will take place at Big Hands, Oxford Road, Manchester (next to the Contact Theatre). If you are local do come along. The sole aim of the night is to play as imaginative and wide-ranging a selection of music as possible. Expect the unexpected! We reckon music fans in the 21st century enjoy a pretty wide range of stuff (this list proves that) but, in this city at least, most clubs and bars seem to rely on DJs with an incredibly narrow musical agenda. (usually hard house, well-worn Indie standards like Oasis or boringly 'authentic' jazz-funk) We aim to bring a wide selection of music which ignores niche-marketing and fashion. No Logo! It might be brilliant.....it might not work at all...but we'll lose some sleep and say we tried. I'm one of three DJs and I'll be playing some Wire/Wire related stuff, some Swim stuff along with lots of other stuff that no proper DJ would ever play....Godspeed, Stereolab, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Autechre, Spritualized, Flaming Lips etc etc etc.........I'll also play Hit Me With Your Rythmn Stick, Kate Bush, some weird 70s Beach Boys thing, Radio Babylon and maybe something daft from the 80s like First Picture of You by the Lotus Eaters....its that kind of night. As for the other DJs who knows?! We'll also have the occasional guest DJ, one of which may be of interest to idealcopy viewers. I won't say who but I'll give you a clue, in honour of his arrival the club night shall be renamed Sink Or Swim! www.thekitchensink.org.uk ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 22:51:10 EST From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] Re: packaging-going off and on topic In a message dated 1/13/1 10:17:25 AM, squonk_upholstery@yahoo.com writes: >rivaled only by the sandpaper cover of "The Return of > >the Durutti Column" || this part is on topic \/ a classic situationist moment in post-punk history...ur, um...the only situationist moment in post-punk history? for those unfamiliar with this one, the sandpaper cover had the potential (when not in a plastic sleeve of course) to rub against records on either side. poor bob dylan and duran duran! of course by the time duran duran had a record out, the durutti album would've been behind the counter in most stores, with a $50 price tag. i'm a sucker for nice packaging. have we discussed favorite wire artwork/packages yet? interesting that manscape is the least favorite album of most listers (myself included), yet the cardboard manscape package is my favorite wire package design. i also really like the photo on the drill 12" cover, and the pink flag cover design as well. what do you all think of wire cover art/package design? - -paul c.d. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 10:28:29 +0200 From: "giluz" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] worst single ever > //// i thought those things were everywhere. a filofax is a sort of loose > leaf diary/notebook with a six hole lever arch mechanism inside > so you can > file whatever you want inside. Michel used to be a list member not so long ago. Graeme Rowland recommended it and I just started reading it a few days ago. As far as the first 50 pages go it's quite promising - dark and perverse. I'll write more when I finish it, but it definitely looks like it's worth a read. giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 09:40:32 +0100 From: "Thomas Link" <101.195315@germanynet.de> Subject: [idealcopy] Malka Spigel When I was in London 2 years ago I bought a promo CDR with paper label (Promo Swim pwm 10) which reads as follows: "Malka Spigel radio edits", tracks from "My Pet Fish" 1.
