It's good to see a few others enjoyed this album as well. It was released on the Erics Label 004 in 1979. My favorite track though is definitely "Degenerated Man". They also had a studio 12'ep on Erics 002 called "Blood And Lipstick". This list never ceases to amaze me! I couldn't see any other equipment he used, but he did use that stylus thing (at first i thought he was smoking a joint, cause he held it in his mouth). It wasn't too danceable - BPM was too slow for me, and he raised it only towards the end. No synth, no Theramin (shame) - I have to say it was disapointing. It was something I'd enjoy much more at home than on the dancefloor, which is a bit of a problem with this format of DJ performance: When I go dancing I usually enjoy dancing to stuff I wouldn't enjoy sitting at home listening to, and the same goes vice versa (does anyone else have this problem?). Mind you, anything like that that would have been performed in an 'analogue gig format', I would certainly have enjoyed much more. Add to that the fact that he almost didn't use his scanner, that he didn't do anything else apart from music (i.e. some kind of multimedia stuff) and that the set was quite short in Israeli standards (hardly an hour and 30 minutes). It's so typical of me to go asking everyone questions and just later realising that I had the Immersion remix plus the Whore cover under my nose without knowing that Scanner did them. That's me - hopeless when it comes to names and song titles. Anyway, thanks for the useful info, everyone. It wasn't that bad so I don't regret going. cheers, giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Jan 2001 12:51:33 +0100 From: "Frank Jürgen Wörner" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Pink Military - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Chenault" To: Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 11:50 AM Subject: [idealcopy] Pink Military > WOW, I didn't think anyone had the Pink Military album "Do Animals Believe > In God?" album besides myself. Hi, the list members seem to have more in common than anyone thinks ... I also own PM's album - but - haven't listened to it for years. Must have been during my "pink" period when I also bought the Legendary Pink Dots and Kissing the Pink. I always thought this to be the perfect example of a punk band going through the transition to post punk, new wave or whatever you want to call it. This is a much more structured organised approach to the song than they had on Pink Flag. You could hear that they gave it much more thought and practice - it still has the intense punk energy, but it's much more controlled. Other great beginnings: ISHNB on 154 - that was my first Wire, so ISHNB was my first favourite Wire song even before I knew any others (I never heard any Wire sound before I bought it). Reuters - that was actually the only song that I really liked on Pink Flag after the first few listens (I've learned to like the rest after a few more listens). Point of Collapse - it does send shivers down my spine too, because it's such a pretty song, and I love the opening with that snare beat - it sounds a bit old fashioned now, soundwise, but I remember that it sounded very contemporary and new when it was released. The first song on A-Z is actually one of the weakest on the album, to my opinion (relatively speaking, of course - A-Z's still my favourite Colin solo, despite the hysteria). giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Jan 2001 15:38:23 From: "Mats Hammerman" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Pink Military >WOW, I didn't think anyone had the Pink Military album "Do Animals Believe >In God?" album besides myself. In fact, the segue into the next song is impeccable. Unfortunately, the rest of the album for me doesn't keep to that level of quality and innovation. But, hey - I'm still glad it was released. I don't actively dislike The Drill at all. In fact, I have found very little of Wire's work that didn't have merit at some level. (In fact, I'm struggling to think of a track right now...) For me, one of the great things about Wire is their constant innovation. Even if it ultimately proves unfruitful, they try it anyway, and share the results of the experiment, good or bad, with the public. I find this very inspiring.
