I've got a few hundreds of vinyl records so I did keep my turntables around. Problem is my turntables (I've got two) are crap, so right now I can't hear anything on vinyl properly. It got to the point where I can't tell if the vinyl is fucked or is it the stylus or my hifi. For example, the 12 times you A side (the non-techno version) sounds absolutely distorted on both my turntables and a friends' turntable as well. The B side sounds fine, though. Anyone had a similar problem with the new single? I know that theoretically vinyl would always be superior to CD, but lacking any good turntable, it means nothing to me. Records sound crap on my hifi and I can't listen to them at work, which is where I mostly listen to music. I'm also too lazy to flip the record every 20 minutes... giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 10:47:09 EST From: PaulRabjohn@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] edinburgh men so here it was...again. i really felt that highbury was the end of it , i just got that vibe on the last night. good to see my predictions remain consistently accurate...... well this was by far the furthest i'd ever been to a gig , usually birmingham/london covers the vast majority of what i fancy. a leisurely drive and a long weekend would have been most agreeable , but a mixture of work plus girlfriend with a baby due in 12 days meant a 24 hour round trip courtesy BA (well what better way to use those air miles?). and a stern warning to the unborn one to stay put and resist the urge to emerge at a wire-related moment (thankfully heeded). so , scotland. home of numerous dodgy guitar bands and the kilt. actually edbgh is a lovely place and the venue was superb , a circular church-type building with pews and a balcony. looked like it was more used to chamber music , nice to think of something a bit more raucous getting let loose there. the logistics department worked for once and the 4 of us all got there in time (me , mark , graeme and uri) for the fun. support band looked a bit uninspiring (altered images meets prag vec was my initial thought) so we warmed the bar up instead. graemes review described it pretty well , starting with the long slow throb of "zoom" , building into a relaxed "heartbeat". then cranking up the tempo for a brilliant "ally in exile" and the punky "germ ship". no more new ones but "he knows" stays there for now. then it was hit by hit as the lads raced for the finish line with advantage/lowdown/letter/12xu and a blistering "pink flag". a quick fag and then back to give drill a mainly-instrumental kicking. excellent performance under stark white light , an xmas party to be proud of. set list ; zoom/heartbeat/ally in exile/germ ship/boiling boy/he knows/advantage in height/lowdown/another the letter/12xu/pink flag//drill so still no graham vocals. but allegedly the project is ongoing and new material is well underway. looks like 2001 could see more fun and frolics , which is a nice prospect. i did my david bailey bit and also stole a set-list , i'll send these to wireviews for collective perusal. well we all hung around for a bit before going to find a watering hole (not difficult) and sorting out the uk music scene over a big pizza. they seem to have very different interpretations of drinking hours up there...... nice meeting graeme and mark , let's hope the next gig is a bit closer to where most of us in the uk live! anyway , it was a great weekend and thanks to everyone involved.p ps very impressed with those avalanche shops. great stock and way cheaper than english equivalents pps nice suit uri ! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 20:00:29 -0000 From: "Stephen Jackson" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] An Evening of Fun in the Metropolis of your Dream >There were two new songs. Check out the Wire Page for a bunch of guitar tablature. Pink Flag is entirely tabbed (a few mistakes here and there), as well as miscellaneous songs from the other albums. An easy one to start with is Ex-Lion Tamer. It goes D A E G. Those should be in Lesson 1 of any "teach yourself guitar" book.
