posts?"
Well, just in case anyone was thinking this - it ain't me who has set this
up.
Actually, I have been involved in setting up a similar splinter mail list
for The Residents (as the "Official one" was going too off-topic and far too
"American only" ) and it did the world of good. It has revived the official
one - not caused it's death. But... there are problems in that some people
do choose one or the other. Also, I'm on an e-groups mail list for the
Television Personalities, and it's not very good! I can't even get onto the
e-groups website, cos our firewall at work stops us!!!!
Although I seem to have been credited with being the ONE who was against the
off-topic stuff, I would like to point out that I had 15-20 emails from
people who thought I had a valid point.

Perhaps the best idea would be for everyone to
contribute on whatever recording
medium they choose and then have a list of volunteers
who will recieve the material
and mix it. I'll happilly do some of the work.
"
If we end up with a bunch of tracks/samples, whatever,
then I would be willing to contruct a couple of
arrangements, perhaps one "noise" biased, and one
"pop" biased or something ;-)
"
Maybe we could persuade messers Gilbert, Lewis, Newman
and Gotobed to
do something as well?!
"
I doubt they'd be interested in direct participation.

I too did not know there even *was* another list -
since when?
"
No idea what's going on either, but I agree that the
list should not be split for all the same reasons that
we have discussed before.
"
And as Giluz says, there's no clear dividing line
between on- and off-topic posts: they often transform
one into the other.
"
I guess one of the problems of filtering is to do with
the fact that few people utilise the subject line. If
more people filled in that bit last with the subject
of their post, said filtering would be easier for all
those that wanted to do it.

hey , that copy of drop/so on ebay has reached $68. now that's a lot........
i love the collaborative music venture , not sure my bit will be anytihng
exciting (lack of gear really). but i'll have a bash , i've been tempted to
go look at these musicmaker programs so this may drive me on.
as an aside , i do think this separate list is disappointing ; these things
need a critical mass to sustain them and i really hope you don't end up with
some rubbish like imusic which stays totally on topic and gets about 1 banal
posting once in a blue moon. was it really so bad? i guess to some it was. ah
well , can't please everyone.p
ps so who's coming to edinburgh then? anyone able to suggest a meeting place?

This talk of adverts makes me glad I threw my TV out
the (other) window about twelve years ago. 12XUTV!
Worryingly, on the rare occasions that I do see some
TV, I find the adverts more entertaining than the
tripe that passes for popular entertainment.
I suppose I do miss the comforting white noise
advertising itself when the BBC/ITV go off air, but
I've got my audiomulching PC machine & 'In Esse' CD to
compensate.
I don't think Audiomulch will run on a Mac, Katherine,
but it is a lot of fun and it's Shareware developed by
an Australian electroacoustic composer, so can be
downloaded free or for however much you want to
contribute to its future development from
http://www.audiomulch.com
It can be used to generate sound or to manipulate
sound inputs from instruments or whatever. It has some
very interesting effects, including a stereo
spacialiser which is a right time eater.
Mulch up your hats!

thank you! couldn't have said it better. and besides, i don't have any
digital music making equipment! also, i do want to set a duration for the
song or songs, however many we create. that is the only foundation required.
of course, no one has to play for the entire length of a track, but having a
set time allows people to place their sounds where they want them within the
song.

i believe we can get started as soon as we know who of us will be
assembling/mixing the tracks, and on what equipment. i will send the
participants (or the whole idealcopy list) the addresses for sending in
submissions. assembler/mixers, get your info to me! i will also determine how
many tracks (and of what length) to send. i don't need to dictate this
though. i just want to post it so everyone knows what to do. it can certainly
be decided on by the group. i just feel strongly about the one thing, that
the length of each track is the guiding factor in it's creation.
thanks for your support. this is something i've wanted to do for years. it
looks like it will finally come to being.
