I was fairly active as a "musician" during most of the 1980s - mainly studio sessions, demo production/arrangement etc. Both sequencer/drum machine stuff and guitar/bass stuff. But a combination of work and general ennui got in the way after that. Also the fact that just about everybody over 30 who "fancies a jam" seems to wants to churn out blues licks etc, something which I have (a) no interest in and (b) don't know how to do! The fact that computers are now good enough to be used as proper recording devices (ie ones that are capable of recording analogue sounds properly) has renewed my interest recently, so I might start to see if the well of creativity is still dribbling at least... I was in the same situation myself, till I started jamming with my so-called-current-band. I always thought jams were stupid and boring because all the people I ever did it with were into blues/jazz/funk kinda thing. > The fact that computers are now good enough to be used as proper > recording > devices (ie ones that are capable of recording analogue sounds > properly) has > renewed my interest recently, so I might start to see if the well of > creativity is still dribbling at least... > Same here as well. I got into it about more than a year ago, and it's amazing what you can do at home now. Finally, a musical medium that enhances your creativity, instead of you wasting time and energy on technical stuff. The next step would be a network based virtual session, in which you can jam over the internet (still a few years for this to be applied to analogue, though you can already do it via MIDI instruments). giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 11:34:19 -0500 From: Carl Archer Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Off Topic - list members musicians http://members.home.net/notcarl/songs You'll find two of my mp3 files there. It'd be one of the drum tracks recorded for the band I play in, but it'd be interesting if someone with more au fait with electronic manipulation could do something new and different with it.... Before I heard Wire I was a sad guitar twiddler - I think their influence as a "muso" band is often understated. I feel sure that many people are reserved about how Wire influenced them - it's very hard to rip off Wire without sounding like them e.g. Blur and Elastica. My point is that it isn't Wires music but their way of doing things which is influential.
