Newman, which is, if I'm not mistaken, Ben Newman, Colin and Malka's son. Cool track. giluz ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2000 13:37:05 +0000 From: "they.wait" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] [WIRE CONTENT] SK-1 on 1/11/00 9:48 pm, J.D.McEachin at jdm@synthcom.com wrote: >> The SK-1 was used right at the end of the 'Beat Combo' era. I used an SK1 about 10 years ago - it was our only "live" keyboard - the rest ran off sequencers or a synced tape. The great thing abouth them was/is that they had no memeory when you turned them off. Our sample memory was a walkman with the sounds on tape - we never actually knew what we were going to get. One of the best toys ever - I would kill for another one! Great List - I only joined the ideal copy a couple of days ago and already learnt that "feed me" was an SK1 - can anyone name the toy keyboard that Wire used on Manscape - also a Casio? I think you'll find that ELO pale into insignificance when compared with other people's vinyl attrocities. I'll (perhaps unwisely) start the ball rolling with these five in no particular order... 1. Dr Hook at De Montfort Hall Leicester (excuse: mum's birthday present) 2. B A Robertson, Kool in the Kaftan 7" (because it had a novelty sleeve that when opened up popped a peace sign. And I actually thought it was funny at the time) 3. The Exploited - lots of stuff (cos I thought that that punk rock included pond life.) 4. Judas Priest - Livin After Midnight 12" - (cos it was a 12" single at the price of a 7" with an extra live track (and I'm sticking to that one)) 5. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms 7" (cos it was ex juke box (it won't do will it? There is no excuse for this one. Does it help that I threw it away a couple of months later? I thought not - I'll get me coat.)) John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? From homework help to love advice, Yahoo! I have been listening to Wire since about 1987 after listening to a tape lent to me by a friend. I blame my friend for my complete wire back catalogue. I blame Wire for 10 years of writing music and playing in bands. My alias They Wait was drummed up for a remix I did for Colin/Malka/Immersion early in 95 - I realised only the other day that the words "they wait" appear in the run out of The Waiting Room on 1990s Manscape. My remix was never released - probably because it was crap! I am now too busy to write music but I continue to design sounds for my home based audio-arsenal. Thats about it for now. Get with the program folks! I've found it takes far LESS time to read several months at one sitting. And it's not like there's a lot of time critical information posted to this list. Sounds like sour grapes on your part. I'm for starting another email list called NOSTALGIC-OLD-FARTS-WHO-HAPPEN-TO-LISTEN-TO-WIRE-IN-ADDITION-TO-A-LOT-OF-CRA P-BANDS-L. However, since the listowner seems to enjoy and support this sort of off-topic rambling, I ENCOURAGE the few who actually post ABOUT Wire to put the tag [WIRE CONTENT], or something similar in the Subject: line. It's hopeless to expect the others to label theirs OFF-TOPIC or OT, as they have already displayed a level of concern which measures a few femtogiveashits at best, i.e. so small as to be undetectable.<< How about [POMPOUS PRIGGISHNESS]? Under the circumstances, it would amount to the same thing & would also have the added attraction of achieving alliteration.
