Don't know much about this guy. He's re-mixed a Depeche Mode track. I have heard good things about him. Add N To (X). I've seen these a couple of times. The jury's still out. The latest, Add Insult, is probably the most melodic / user-friendly release so far. The couple of tracks I've heard of it sound very similar to Stereolab. Lots of analogue sounds. Hawtin + Namlook. This must be Richie Hawtin (AKA Plastikman). His 909 + EFX release (did I get that right) got top marks from all reviewers. Don't know about this collaboration though. Chris. There was some excellent music from the 70's, most of it never got airplay... kind of reminds me of the late 90's... I'm not sure I agree with your statement about half of the list being from the US. Granted that LedZep and Frampton are UK imports, but by the time of Rumors, Fleetwood Mac were dominated by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks ... It's not out yet due to some packaging problems, but I expect it soon. I hope the remastering creates a noticible improvement in the sound otherwise I've paid $50 dollars for just one new disc worth of material. >From: "giluz" >To: "IdealCopy" >Subject: [idealcopy] New releases / Faust news - off topic >Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 12:34:37 +0200 > >I just got an update from Sister Ray and was wondering if anyone knows >anything about these: > >DJ SHADOW: Brainfreeze Ltd >ADD N TO X: Add Insult To Injury >HAWTIN+NAMLOOK: From Within 1/2/3 > >Are these new, and did anyone hear them yet? > >FAUST: 71-73 The Wumme Years (5 CD box set) - this is a box set comprising >of 4 already released Faust albums (Faust, Faust So Far, The Faust Tapes >and >71 Minutes of Faust) plus a CD with BBC sessions + extra unreleased >material. Anyone else going to the Planet K Manchester gigs? It'll be my fourth and maybe fifth Godspeed experience(s). I interviewed Thierry and Aidan (drums) last time they played here. Efrim, Thierry and Sophie (violin) also record as Silver Mount Zion, whose album is well worth hearing if you like Godspeed. Aidan has an electronica project called Exhaust, and latterly One Speed Bike which I've yet to hear. Roger (guitar) also plays in the excellent Fly Pan Am who've just put out a new EP and I recommend their motorik debut album highly. Less than you ought to know... Lock up your hats! The SK-1 makes a distinctive "PLINK" sound, which you can hear 3 times at the beginning of the live version of "Feed Me" on the US "Ideal Copy" CD. The first one happens when the SAMPLE button was pressed, followed by a fast guitar strum, then another immediately after to end sampling. The final one comes when the LOOP button was pressed. The main guitar riff aftwards is obviously played on the SK-1, as it speeds up/slows down when transposed, and is heavily distorted (the SK-1 was only 8bit). I happened to be doing similar things w/ my SK-1 at the time, so I laughed out loud the first time I heard it, realizing that they, too, were using a US$100 toy to mangle sound. Sorry it took so long to reply - there's so much non-Wire crap on this list that I usually save up several months' worth of posts before undertaking the arduous task of sifting through the all the drivel about The Cars , ELO, Styx, & whatever crap groups certain people feel compelled to wax nostalgic about. I'm for starting another email list called NOSTALGIC-OLD-FARTS-WHO-HAPPEN-TO-LISTEN-TO-WIRE-IN-ADDITION-TO-A-LOT-OF-CRAP-BANDS-L. However, since the listowner seems to enjoy and support this sort of off-topic rambling, I ENCOURAGE the few who actually post ABOUT Wire to put the tag [WIRE CONTENT], or something similar in the Subject: line. It's hopeless to expect the others to label theirs OFF-TOPIC or OT, as they have already displayed a level of concern which measures a few femtogiveashits at best, i.e. so small as to be undetectable. I've definitely taken enough shit for that, so it's time to bury it. One thing I guarantee to be true about *everyone* (yes, you!) on this list is that your music collections are diverse, and along with that comes the one record, album, CD (whatever) that you cringe about when you admit they liked it at some point in time. We are *all* "guilty" of that. So, save the flaming, please, JDM or anyone else. I don't know about anyone else, but I just don't seem to have the time (or interest) in reading the Idealcopy digest from 4 months ago, looking for topics to reply to.
