Nothing to do w/ "our" Wire, of course. Just sort of a vocal pop band that did some some jamming (which probably felt like an obligation at the time). Their guitar player was Curt Almstead (sp?), who later recorded for Twin Tone records in Mpls. as Buzz Barker and (primarily) as Curtis A. (a name under which he recorded 3 very good albums ... he was much more "rock" than "his" Wire had been ... some of it's pretty weird). When the first Curtis A. album was released, I interviewed him for a small public radio station. When I pulled out the "Wire" ep he seemed less than thrilled, but he allowed me to play a track and actually seemed to enjoy it. Of course, he was smoking pot through the entire show, which might have helped his mood. On the other hand, I'd rather have Nigel Kennedy do an orchestration of pink flag every month than living with the current situation here... giluz ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 16:18:44 +0200 From: "giluz" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] wireviews > > > enjoyed the nov issue , the swim video looks like a nice thing to have. > anyone found out where this 12xu single is being sold? > Via pinkflag.com and other places as well. giluz ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 09:51:32 EST From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT ; dodgy duo Paul, << ps bet that brix has some tales to tell....... >> Indeed. I always liked the fact that after Brix dumped MES for Aston Villa's number one "celebrity" fan, Mark got someone into the Fall to play "fiddle" on the next album. So, I've put up MPEG audio only files of the performances - they're about 2 Megs each, which is far easier to deal with if you're using a modem. (That's about as small as I can make them with the software I have.) For your personal use only. http://www.weasel-bot.com/tv Cheers, Paul ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 09:55:41 -0800 (PST) From: Rick Hindman Subject: [idealcopy] Introduction Greetings- I just joined up on this list and wanted to say hello. I am curious just how many people are on this list. I have been a Wire fan for almost 18 years now, but have yet to see them live :( I am also just discovering the wealth of information about them on the web and look forward to learning more. I live in the Santa Cruz area in central California. I am sort of picking up some of the latest threads and wanted to get some more info on some of them. I saw the listing for 'Godspeed You Black Emporer' (forgive the spelling) and wanted to find out more info on who they are and what their shows are like.
