"Hey I'm not the Assman" The only people here with words on their plates have payed a lot of money for them and are likely to be wearing toupes. It didn't contain any members of the Prunes either. Axelrod sacked the band and kept the name for what was basically a solo album. There was another equally grim Axelrod/Prunes album with a similar cover but the name escapes me. The Electrc Prunes are one of the great US '60s garage punk bands.... You could use that as a little subtext! Jah Wobble is massively into William Blake and has made whole concept albums about him. He did a single called 'Becoming More Like God' on a Blake theme. Actually my old man likes William Blake and I remember there were Blake prints on the wall when I was a kid. "Whats that picture Daddy?" I would say..."Thats a picture of God son!". I never shop at the big > chainstores at all, nor online - ridiculous options > for an able bodied big city dweller surrounded by > cars, noise and good record shops! I hate Virgin and Our Price which are badly stocked and just sit there waiting for Christmas to come around so they can sell Westlife CDs to your Granny. However, I have a soft spot for HMV because while they are completely corporate they do make a bit more effort than the others. They do at least maintain a good back catalogue. I've often found things in there that I've scoured so-called independent record shops for to no avail.....like Colin Newmans 'Not To', Coatings.......plus if you want something that is borderline mainstream like say the new Broadcast EP they will have that in stock whereas your local independent (Picadilly) will always "Have it in by Thursday week!" Plus I must have been to Picadlilly Records every single week for about 6-7 years and the customer service is no better than any of the big corporate shops. I usually have to stand there while some student discusses the new Badly Drawn Boy LP with whichever smug bastard is on the counter. I pay their wages godammit! > Other useful UK shops - > Vinyl Exchange, Pop Art, Pelicanneck, King Bee, Decoy > (Manchester) Yeah! King Bee! If any of you Non-uk listees have a desire to find the inspiration for Nick Hornby's High Fidelity you will find it in King Bee records, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton! They even have a special box of Northern Soul 7"s under the counter and a funny little Prog section and everything....and if you go in on a Saturday they always have the football on the radio instead of playing records! Have they still got that faded 7" picture sleeve of Dot-Dash in the window? Its not quite in Manchester (Its in Bolton!) but I would add to that list X-Records. It used to unbelievably brilliant a couple of years ago (when it was three shops on one street) whereas now it is just brilliant (having whittled down to just one shop) but basically they keep a vast back catalogue so if you missed something when it came out like a CD single...they probably have it. I can only assume that the guy who runs it just buys one of everything when the reps come round. For example he has got the entire discography of Th'Faith Healers....you wouldn't want to buy them but you're glad he's got them just in case you did! He had the entire WMO catalogue until I bought them all! It used to have a bit of a Metal bias which lives on to this day....they have far more Metal CDs than is strictly necessary but I find that lends it a bit of a Spinal Tap vibe which makes it all the more appealing. He's got lots of Kiss and Ozzy Osbourne Dolls and things like that. If you happen to visit the good stuff is usually downstairs! Where/What is Pelicanneck?! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 04:18:15 EDT From: PaulRabjohn@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT - William Blake Babies John Strohm.
