A different subject: Friends of mine bought a new really good hifi system last week, and I brought some CD's to kinda test it out. I brought Can's Tago Mago as an example for old analogue stuff, and was very surprised to hear distortion in the cymbals on the left speaker after about 2 minutes of Oh Yeah. Is anyone aware of that? giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2000 07:30:36 -0700 (PDT) From: Wireviews Subject: The future of media >>>> CD can and will die, just like 8 track cassette did, but for different reasons. ‘Will die?’ I hear you cry out? Yes, it will die, because there is a new monster on the horizon , and I dont mean the discredited MiniDisc or the lame DCC. I am talking about HDCD. >>>> Its name escapes me at the moment, but there is another format in production. Said media is slightly larger than CD, but backwards compatible with CDR, DVD and standard audio CD, but with the benefit of about 140Gb per side of the discs. They are expected 'some time in 2001' according to a recent MacUser article, which I can't find at the moment. Recordables are expected by the end of next year for about six quid each. Sound good, if it's true, but then I have seen about a half-dozen reports on this format. They obviously need a catchier name though! :-) Craig. ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://welcome.to/wireviews News, reviews and dugga. They were my first concert back in 1983. My date fell asleep, but I did get to meet them after the show... /////// the girl has my sympathy :-) but seriously , they never did much for me. when i saw them advertised as being on totp2 i guessed it must be "white punks" , which is at least worth a snigger (as is "don't touch me there") . but that later commercial stuff is even worse than mid-period devo. talking of which , i have a really good devo bootleg where they do a medley of jocko homo and "white dopes on punk". they do it pretty well.p ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2000 22:52:33 +0100 From: "sean bowen" Subject: Performance-Enhancing Music On my training run this morning, I listened to my tape of "The First Letter", followed by the last 3 tracks on "Manscape" on my Walkman. The results were interesting, but not conclusive. During my favourite tracks (e.g. "It Continues", "What do you See ?"), I experienced a slight rise in heart rate (from 130-135 up to about 140-145) and a temporary energy rush. There was a decrease during "A Bargain", but this co-incided with a downhill section of the route. In general, I would say it was beneficial, if only because the music is good enough to take my mind off the physical discomfort. I will be very interested to know if any of the UK team in Sydney for the marathon use Wire recordings as part of their training. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V3 #284 *******************************
