[=?iso-8859-1?q?Graeme=20Rowland?= Subject: It can't be true can it? Paul Rabjohn brought up the rumour that Gilbert and Lewis were involved in the Polar Bear 'Being Sucked in Again' Whore thing. Indeed they were! A sample from 'A Touching Display' opens the cover. As for any further involvement, can anyone shed any light on this? The sleevenotes, which describe Wire as 'a perfectly white geometrical box from which you can hear something small scratching inside' have a Gilbertian ring to them... After offending half of north London he went on to offend half the human race with Rapeman....<<< Well, if 'half the human race' is represented by a small feminist pressure group at Leeds University then maybe so. However Steve Albini did not sing or guitar or mess with Roland in Arsenal. It was the other Big Black guitarist Santiago Durango who did these deeds. He reunited with Naked Raygun bassist Pierre Kezdy to make a couple of fine EP's for Touch & Go, the first of which was also released on Blast First in the UK. 'Little Hitlers' from the 'Manipulator' EP and 'When heads collide' from the second 'Factory Smog is a Sign of Progress' EP are just as good as Big Black imo. Also, Durango used Roland the drum machine for Arsenal and no 'real' drums were involved. He also utilised some sampled speech on the first EP and some rather Stranglers influenced keyboards on a couple of tunes from the second EP. Some Arsenal songs were less impressive than some Big Black songs and vice versa. Memento Mori An Ex World Bender ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Rapeman had a real rhythm section (from Scratch Acid??), hence my confusion.... I did hear the first Arsenal record and all I can remember was it was like Big Black, but not as distinctive. But honestly I couldn't go into a record shop and ask for "the new Arsenal CD"..... Mark << However Steve Albini did not sing or guitar or mess with Roland in Arsenal.
