It was very promising - I still can't quite believe I saw Howard Devoto on stage again - looking exactly the same as when he was in Luxuria (shaved head, horn-rims) and looking like he was enjoying himself immensely..... I'm certainly hoping they'll carry on with the Buzzkunst project and take it onwards - albums etc.... I always thought it was a shame that Pete never really got anywhere with his early post-Buzzcocks electronics stuff... weight of comparison with BC singles I guess, plus crappy 80s technology.....so he went back to retro-life with Stevie D. Maybe this will give him an outlet for that kind of stuff.... >> magazine box-set looks a little poor , basically 2 discs of single a and b sides (yawn) plus one of peel sessions. hmm , so instead of a £10 strange fruit cd we're gonna be asked £20+ for 4 peel sessions. i'd thought they'd do it like the pil one , but no.<< The Peel sessions are worth it...some of the versions are better than the records, plus you get Magazine's ironic version of Boredom! I have adequate copies of all of them but it'll be nice to have A1 recordings. >>mind you , the strange fruit joy division cd looks good ; i've only got the 2 vinyl 12"s so to have it all on cd (plus 2 "something else" tracks and an interview) for a tenner looks tempting. could be an expensive month.p >> yep - the Something Else versions of Transmission and She's lost control are awesome.....now I have three copies of the JD peel sessions :-( I remember that programme going out (also had the Jam on the same show doing Eton Rifles and When you're young - very angry versions), It was classic "yoof TV" including interviews about police brutality etc... Also I remember Peter Powell (US listers - a particularly abysmal 70s Radio 1 DJ) flagging up the programme on the radio that day as featuring performances by "The Jam - and Joy Davidson"..... mark ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000 05:49:54 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: more beatles Paul, << ps does anyone think much of colin's "blue jay way"? >> It sort of fits - but it's probably my least favourite track on Not To - which is my favourite CN album.
