It's open to myriad interpretations of course, but the line 'Refugees intertwined alone' always makes me think of adverse political situations and the bigotry that all too many politicians exacerbate, leading to wars, pogroms and all that childish clutter. The overall atmosphere of the song is very apocalyptic and I dare say politicians will have their part to play in the end of the human race as we know it. Also the shipping forecast shouted at the end was intended to reflect the way that all the turmoil (be it political, natural or supernatural) reported in the news (BBC/UK) is always followed by the shipping forecast, reliable and constantly reassuring. The implication, at least to my ears, is that one day the shipping news won't be on air because there will be no mercy nurse left to read it. Can I say that artists such as Wire attempt to describe the world? Can I say that politics is a sadly unavoidable part of that world? Yes I can! At least just for now. No, this appears to be 4AD disc rot... I also have this exact same prob with 8 Time (CAD16) and a couple other early titles from this series. Sadly, the tetracyclene did not help either. ]: ( Eric > > Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 10:01:09 -0700 > From: "HALSTED :: Certified Faith Customizer" > Subject: Singing Fish / Not To / CN1 : disc rot > > Has anyone else who owns Singing Fish / Not To / CN1 noticed > that the discs are beginning to rot? I live in the USA but my friend in Greece would like it. So Mailorder is the preferred method. Whoever knows the best way to get one to her, please let me know. I checked the Mute site and they list a Suicide #1 there, but it's something like 7 1/2 English Pounds, but makes no indication that it's the double vinyl version. (and the catalog number is nothing close to my double cd version) So that's a big question mark. I sent an email to Mute and they have not responded in a week's time. Please help. thanks David f ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2000 19:39:38 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: "our swimmer" Andy, A quick answer. Yes.
