Not my favourite Wenders film, mainly because it plays with the American model which gives the audience narrative cohesion at all times. This works to the point that anyone can enjoy/comprehend it, but it also hides the complexities. It wasn't until I've been to a lecture on it in university when I realised all the subtextual elements working underneath it. giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 03:20:57 -0700 From: "tube disaster" Subject: Re: wim (was RE: REM (was Re: GbV)) Did that one have Harry Dean Stanton? I remember liking the film anyway, but Stanton's presence (much like David Strathairn's -- when that guy's in a John Sayles flick, I'm pretty much in cinematic heaven) has redeemed many a lesser movie for me. It's some really amazing stuff. He pays > about $30 > per CD. How much would it be to buy Israeli CDs in US dollars without > shipping them here? > > -Carl > A bit less than $30, something between $20-$25, i guess. It's really weird, since I order from Europe/US most of the CD's I buy, and here's this guy living in the States ordering CD's from Israel. I know that we're kinda not bad at electronics, but I didn't think (and I still don't) that we have better stocks than they have in Europe. Still, I seldom find something worthwhile - it seems that I always get into things at the wrong time - either before or after they become available at the shops. So I mainly use the internet for buying CD's. Talking about summer - there's nothing worse than summer in Tel-Aviv - 30-35 degress centigrate and 65-85% (or even more) humidity. The ultimate combination that just makes you crawl on the floor and wish you were dead. At nights it goes down to around 25 degrees, but humidity is soaring. Jerusalem has nicer weather (at least it's dry) but I totally hate going there (political, personal and anti-religious reasons entwined). As far as gigs go - there are none throughout the year, so during the summer we get some, mostly not quite interesting. Actually, we just had Radiohead and Supergrass, but I'm not really interested in both so I didn't go. Yeah, and there's the beach, which is nice, but getting too crowded to my taste. And as far as being tanned is concerned, I got used to the idea that I'll always have that skinny pale ghostly look - it's far better than having the burnt red tomato look. I try to avoid the sun as much as I can - we don't get along much. giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 05:10:44 -0500 From: DMc Subject: postRockPost This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --------------0FC10120489EA38F887AF559 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > Date: Sat, 22 Jul 2000 01:39:30 +0100 > From: Tim Robinson > Subject: Re:Trans Am > > I've heard of them Giluz, and yes they are quite good. I'm a pretty avid fan of the subgenre, but all I've ever managed to find by the Prefects was a cassette of the Peel Sessions EP in a local cutout bin 3 or 4 years ago. And all I've ever been able to find of the Nightingales was a copy of Pigs on Purpose at a used store around the same time.
