The first track, Jihad is rather techno-ish, while the rest sounds pretty much the same as SOM circa Floodland (the second track on Sisterhood CD is another version of "Colours" off Floodland) Pretty good music, my favorites are Giving Ground and Jihad. I remember being subscribed to (gosh!) New Model Army list and after I left the genie out of the bottle mentioning SOM in a post, it appeared that they were everyone's favorite band. >Do you know the story behind that name? Yes, I do but so what? Eldritch is not a perfect person (neither are MES, John Lydon or Iggy Pop) but they all make damned good music! >Maybe that is where the Mission or Fields of Nephlim came froim. The Mission. I am not aware of any Fields of Nephilim/SOM connection (apart from both bands playing "gothic" rock). Anyway, I only have "Nephilim" (Moonchild!) Any more suggestions on FoN? Played that one into the ground! Also have several Mission albums (like the artwork on the covers) even though they get so much criticism. I also have the Fields of the Nephilim album with the Moonchild song on them. Haha... Guess I was into that gothic rock stuff quite a bit. Never owned any SOM albums, CDs or tapes - heard so much of it from friends that I was saturated. Around then I was also listening to MBM, KMFDM, Revco, etc...hahaha Still have it all somewhere... I dunno... my firs "goth" band was Mission (and even worh, the first album was "Grains of sand" - to this day I can't understand why "Carved in sand" is considered a great album and "GoS" is described as "leftovers" - CiS doesn't have Mr.Pleasant or Hands across the Ocean!) I got into SoM and loved it at first listen. Try tracks from "Vision thing" such as Ribbons, More or When you don't see me. And Detonation boulevard is an absolute classic! Depends on what you listen to the radio for, I suppose. If I were find no point in listening to stuff that I can hear at home, I guess I'd only listen to classical, jazz, blues or gospel stations -- stuff I don't give the slightest damn about. And Detonation boulevard is >an absolute classic! > Vision Thing is an extremely worthwhile album, but for my money (a good bit of it, in fact ... along with the Cure, the Sisters are pretty much the only band whose bootlegs I almost always buy when I see 'em, since I never encounter any Wire ones) they peaked with the first half of the preceding album, Floodland. Dominion/Mother Russia, Lucretia My Reflection, This Corrosion & 1959 can still raise the hair on the back of my neck. I mean, some great > stuff's been done, but the 60's & the 70's were much better (from > psychedelics to glam-rock to garage to prog and to punk - wow). As far as Thanks. I thought I was alone. The only good thing about popular music in the 80s is that it may have inspired the underground scene that revolted against it. Good luck finding anyone at an 80s retro-station that's heard of Wire (who are not, of course, an 80s band).
