This month's update is a little smaller than last month's but still contains all the usual Wire-related news, along with the first on-site review of Wire's NYC gig, and the (very) belated reviews of the Swim~ 7s. http://welcome.to/wireviews Craig ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://welcome.to/wireviews News, reviews and dugga. Isn't *that* odd? (I'm not sure where the hold-up was either - it looks like the original posting headers are stipped off by the list server, which is as you'd expect.) Needless to say - you can safely ignore this message... The answer to that one is simple. The original message bounced on the 20th, but because I've been busy with work and travel, I only got a chance to catch up on things yesterday afternoon. It's then that I sent all the various bounced messages on to the list. If I do it right, i.e., strip out the relay headers myself, it appears seamlessly. If I goof, it shows as being mailed from "owner-idealcopy" instead of the right person, but it still goes to the list o.k. More than you wanted to know, I'm sure. Recent threads: In general, I like Killing Joke. Once again, I shall reveal my relentlessly mainstream tendencies by confiding to you that my favorite album of theirs is NIGHT TIME. Julian Cope gave Jaz a thorough what's for in his book REPOSSESSED, though. I must agree that acting like you're eeeeevil usually ends up coming off less like Charles Manson and more like THE KIDS IN THE HALL's Sir Simon Milligan and Hecubus. Best live gig I've seen: Still our very own Wire at the RFH in February. Honorable mentions to the disparate assortment of Springsteen solo/acoustic at the Ryman in Dec. '96, REM in Knoxville TN 11/95, REM in Charleston WV 10/87, A. Scott Miller solo/acoustic at the Sutler here in Nashville 5/99, and Jason & the Scorchers/Wayne Hancock/BR5-49 at 328 Performance Hall in Nashville 12/30/95. later, Miles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2000 09:19:03 +0100 From: Ian Calder Subject: re: 8-Time '8-Time' is a compilation of the Gilbert/Lewis material released on 4AD records. It comprises two singles and one album, specifically; the 'Like This For Ages'/'Kluba Cupol' 12" single the '3R4' LP - includes four tracks; 'Barge Calm' (1), '3.4', 'Barge Calm' (2), 'R' the 'Ends With The Sea'/'Hung Up To Dry Whilst Building an Arch' 7" single 'Ends With The Sea' and 'Like This For Ages' are vocal tracks, certainly if you like portions of Dome 1 and Dome 2 (think 'Ritual View' from Dome 2) you'll like these. 'Kluba Cupol', '3.4' and 'R' are side-long slabs of music/noisy stretches - think of 'Keep It' from 'Dome 2' for something similar. The remaining tracks are quite short slices, again in familiar sonic realm to Dome 1 and 2. Well worth getting if you like the Dome material, I'd recommend it.
