At the time, it was essential viewing, but probably died due to small audiences (despite its early evening time slot on a non-commercial national channel) Ian ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 18:16:25 +0200 From: "giluz" Subject: RE: Old Video trawl > As I recall, the show was only about 25 minutes long each edition. I remember buying it because it had The Fall's Bill Is Dead. I'll have to look it up, together with the Granada early punk shows which I also have but still didn't find. My video collection is in complete disarray and it could take me hours just to find it (I have hundreds). giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 09:51:12 -0700 From: "Paul Pietromonaco" Subject: Re: Old Video trawl > I think I have a SnubTV compilation video, if we're talking about the same > thing here. My video collection is in complete disarray > and it could take me hours just to find it (I have hundreds). I can confirm there were SnubTV compilation videos - even though I'm in America. And, that's because I have one. It was released by MCEG/Virgin Music video in 1991 or so. The funny thing is that it's listed as Volume 2. So, there must have been a volume one at some point (duh....) Also, the NTSC logo is a sticker, so it must have been released originally in PAL. Here's what's on it. 1. The Fall - Bill Is Dead 2. Tackhead - Mind and Movement Control 3. Kid Congo - La Historia De Un Amour 4. Happy Mondays - Wrote For Luck 5. Ted Chippington - Pull Up 6. A Certain Ratio - Tribeca 7. Ride - Drive Blind 8. Ancient Beatbox - Raining 9. Loop - From Centre to Wave 10. Blue Aeroplanes - ... And Stones 11. Breeders - Iris 12. The Cramps - All Women Are Bad 13. James - Government Walls 14. Big Hard Excellent Fish - Imperfect List The box quote? "SNUB Television: The sharpest music on British television selects the highlights of their second BBC 2 series" Cheers, Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 20:12:24 +0200 From: "giluz" Subject: RE: Old Video trawl Yeah - that's the one I've got as well, but in PAL. giluz > I can confirm there were SnubTV compilation videos - even though I'm in > America. I've noted before, months & months ago, that I have most if not all the ones that were shown on Night Flight ... every now & then, I come across one that I'd forgotten existed (like, a few months ago, the one[s] with Silk Skin Paws & artists like Brilliant Corners, Blurt, Close Lobsters, Frank Tovey & He Said [I think ... I tend to get all the side projects mixed up, as I'm one of those bad people who's not into them], among others). Meanwhile, of course, my multi-year search for the one with the Mekons' Hole in the Ground, which I know *damned well* I recorded, continues. (I think it also included Pop Will Eat Itself's take on Love Missile F1-11 & the Pastels' Crawl Babies ... at least, I know I haven't seen them in more than a decade, either.) Nothing quite like seeing live footage of Big Black & Head of David on mainstream cable, not to mention videos by the Chills (Pink Frost & I Love My Leather Jacket -- that episode is what made me a fan of theirs), Swans, Wedding Present, Three Johns, Hula, Fall, Miaow, A Certain Ratio, Gary Clail & Tackhead, Mark Stewart & Maffia (in fact, there was an entire episode on On-U Sound [as there were on Blast First & Factory as well] -- in fact, I swear Adrian Sherwood introduces Annie Anxiety [looking very muck like Brix Smith] as basically a secretary), etc etc etc. Dan >> >> It occurs to me that I remember that show (Snub). it was shown ,here in >> the states, as part of the USA networks "Night Flight". Sounds like it was more appreciated overseas. It's infuriating in a way, looking at the line-ups that Gil and Dan list from a show on national (British) TV in the late 80s; an absolute explosion of channels since then and still hardly anything available which shows the kind of stuff that I might be interested in, or matches SnubTV.
