There are two new reviews: Wire’s ‘It’s all in the Brochure’ and WMO’s final release, the daring 'manchesterlondon' CD from gilbertpossstenger. Results from the Swim Team One competition are in. Live reviews have also started to appear, thus there are five new pages added to the live reviews section - two Garage reports and three from the USA. Graeme Rowland also submitted a lengthy interview conducted with Wire at The Garage on their final night there, which makes for very interesting reading! The latest WMO newsletter, 3.3 is online, collecting all Wire related news from the past three months, and of course, Wireviews’ own news section has been updated with news of forthcoming activities from Wire, pinkflag.com and Swim~ Records, along with news of Veer’s new release, the experimental noise-based Sonus. I went with a group of friends with whom I had also seen them in 1987. Opinion was wildly divided on the two shows. One friend railed against what he saw as the bands apparent distaste (and on Lewis's part contempt) for the audience (Ahead, he felt, was performed as a 'wind-up'; Goodbye Ploy was 'misanthropic'). This was not my own reading of proceedings. Another friend thought that it was far better, far more interesting than '87. Did they also do some kind of hybrid of I Am The Fly /Small Black Reptile? >>>>> yep , they played the "fly" riff a few times as an intro to sbr. on the set list it called it "fly". personally i enjoyed bristol 90 much more than astoria 88 , my 2 gigs of that era.p ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 7:21:38 +0100 From: paul.rabjohn@ssab.com Subject: Re[2]: 12DrillU Paul, Do you reckon the Bristol '12DrillU' is the one on the CD accompanying the 'Exploded Views' book ? If so, then I agree, it's really good. But even better, in my opinion, is the 1990 update of 'Underwater Experiences' on the same disc. Totally manic. Fascinating evolution from the original demo on 'Behind the Curtain', through the live '79 versions on D&E. Each so different, and each so brilliant. >>>>> bit of a dispute on this. allegedly the "exploded views" cd is from the london (hibernian club) gig on the manscape tour. but andrew did me a tape of that gig and certainly the u/experiences is not that version. my memories of bristol aren't enough to comment on whether it might be from there. they filled the stage with dry ice for ue (the set closer) , that i do remember. p ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 01:01:38 -0700 (PDT) From: Stephen Harper Subject: Re: 12DrillU Sean, Totally agree - UW and 12DrillU are the standout tracks from the "Exploded Views" disc. (I managed to miss the 1990 Edinburgh gig because of illness, which I still regret to this day.) In fact, I think I prefer 12DrillU to any version of Drill or 12XU. Maybe "hybrid songs" are Wire's thing - witness "The Art of Persistence". "It starts with 1, it's follwed by 2, and "X" marks the spot where "I" met "U". Inspired! Can anyonwe recommend good krautrock bands which sound more like Faust/Can? I know all of the Faust/Can catalogue, but as to other krautrock bands, I've only got the Krautrock archive vol.1, which has great 2 tracks by a band called Temple - anyone heard of them? giluz ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V3 #171 *******************************
