Dan, horrifiedly staring a 12-hour shift in the face after not getting in from seeing the Jazz Butcher in Memphis till nearly 4 bloody a.m. ... good show, though -- no Southern Mark Smith or Rebecca Wants Her Bike Back, but hearing She's On Drugs live didn't exactly ruin my night. Caroline Wheeler's Birthday Present I was expecting because it's on the new live album, which otherwise I should've paid more attention to ... wonder if they did Take the Skinheads Bowling on that one? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Apr 2000 19:18:29 +0100 From: "Stephen Jackson" Subject: Ambitious A question re the album version of Ambitious... In the middle section, where CN is talking about "The Ideal Copy. The perfect Copy etc..." is the line "poor reception results in blurred perception" (from French Film (Blurred)) whispered? Author: MIME:mark@cipher.freeserve.co.uk at INTERNET Date: 29/04/2000 22:28 Wow, there have been some great bands mentioned on this list lately. I must add a shout for the ones that stand out for me. 23 Skidoo's 7 Songs is one of my all time fave albums, awesome. I'm definitely having the CD re-issue and I'd recommend it to all. TWP supporting NIN at bham - I so agree they were superb that night. I didn't even stay for NIN, we went straight out to a nearby pub and raved about the Wolfies. I miss 'em. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 May 2000 12:15:53 -0500 From: "MackDaddyD" Subject: Re: idealcopy-digest V3 #114 best guitarist many bands ever had ;) > >Just thought....did Smith play for a bit and then bugger off, only later to > >return....Either ways, McGeoch was the best guitarist the Banshees ever > >had... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If anyone on the list would like to meet up for drinks before Wire's first of two San Francisco shows Tuesday night please join some friends and I at the Edinburgh Castle at 950 Geary Street around 7:00 or 7:30. We'll be the small group of people looking like we're excited to be seeing Wire, but if you want a little more to go on than that let me know and see if I can find a pink flag to raise on our table. You can get fish & chips there, too. Anyway, the following, which I just posted elsewhere, seems somewhat relevant -- >>God*damn* ... After nearly 2 decades of missing out, I'm finally hearing Josef K for the first time (courtesy of the arrival just now from Darlashop of the Endless Soul retrospective CD at a *domestic* price ... got the Crazy to Exist live one on LTM in the same shipment, but can't play them both at once) & am in the process of being blown away. The Wedding Present really never would have existed without these guys, would they? OK, slight change of pace now with Chance Meeting & The Angle & Drone, perhaps reminiscent a bit of A Certain Ratio's & the Gang of 4's approaches to funk ... Wow, is this great stuff. My 101cd order of the 2-fer CD is going in as soon as I've finished this e-mail. *sigh* Just what I needed -- even more reason to ignore *today's* music as much as possible. Damn. Not that I'm going to waste any time getting to Best Buy to pick up the new Supergrass for $6.99, but I'll be happy if 2 songs on it stick to my brain, as their first 2 albums were a little too fluffy to manage even that ... I might as well note, too, that the same shipment also included LTM's reissues of Section 25's Always Now (already had the sumptuously packaged LP, but needed the Girls Don't Count bonus tracks) & Crispy Ambulance's Plateau Phase (only had a dub of it & the bonus tracks) & Fin ...
