I saw an interview with them a few years back (around 1995, I think, when Telecommunication Breakdown was released) where they admitted to be influenced by Meat Beat Manifesto, but Jack Dangers is not a member of the band. However I do remember (vaguely) that there was a connection between the two - they either worked together or something else (er - didn't work together? were in highschool together? hated each other's guts? etc...) giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2000 17:05:45 +0200 From: "giluz" Subject: fall >it is interesting how often the fall come up in this forum. Well, actually it doesn't surprise me at all. Who else emerged in the late seventies, endured the 80's and 90's, and continued to make great albums till now? There's something about both bands that always struck me as being outside the current music scene, even when they're dealing with what's fashionable at the time. That makes everything they do very personal, unique, uncompromising and interesting. And, speaking of Fall compilations, does anyone know if the first 2 Fall singles were ever released on CD's? I've got them on vinyl, but their condition is not mint anymore. Final point - Marshall Suite is the best Fall album I've heard in the last 5 years. giluz ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2000 21:35:37 -0700 From: "M. Bingo Master's Breakout/Psycho Mafia/Repetition 2. It's the New Thing/Various Times 3. Rowche Rumble/In My Area 4. Fiery Jack/2nd Dark Age/Psykick Dancehall 2 are all on Early Years which Cog Sinister has released quite recently on CD (mastered from vinyl). This reissue also adds the Fall numbers from the Live at the Electric Circus record, Last Orders + Stepping Out. Check out Jeff Higgott's discography here: http://www.visi.com/fall/discography.html which is a bloody huge mother, as you'd expect. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 01:49:53 -0400 (EDT) From: Joshua Subject: Re: Off Topic Self Plug of sorts On Sun, 23 Apr 2000, Carl Archer wrote: > I seem to remember that the dominant force in EBN was Jack Dangers of Meat > Beat Manifesto. EBN was/is Josh Pearson, Gardner Post, and Ron O'Donnell, according to http://hallmall.com/cgi-bin/redirect/go2.cgi?search=EmergencyBroadcastNetwork&site=BIOGRAPHY And considering their local (to Providence) nature, I doubt that much of a worldwide connection, barring, of course, U2. - -Joshua > >> Ever heard of the Emergency Broadcast Network? Of course, I'd rather have the original single but a mini disc (MD) or even an mp3 recording will suffice. To my knowledge, in all the collections it appears on it's not the original studio version. If anyone can get me the original (or tell me the name of the compilation it is found in, if any) please let me know. giluz ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V3 #109 *******************************
