Hardly a glowing epitaph, but their song - entitled 'Eurovision' was a strange little piece of electropop (given the context), and certainly raised the Belgians in my estimation. Needless to say they scooped no prizes. Things were slightly spoilt by my later discovery that the song was actually called 'Neurovision' but was watered down for the contest. (with apologies to those of you not familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest; best keep it that way). - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Friday, March 17, 2000 9:37 PM Subject: Re: Miserable fat Belgian bastards > Billy, > Re: TELEX > That got me hunting in my collection & sure enough an album from > 1979 I had not played since ...1979." Anyway, I'd lay the blame at the feet of people willing to trade (good-naturedly, one hopes) in stereotypes -- sort of like the one in said post about (again, if memory serves) areas of the US where everybody rides around in pickups & watches wrestling. (As it happens, I've spent 90 percent of my life in Arkansas -- Little Rock is as far north as I've ever lived -- & the only friend I've ever had who was a wrestling devotee picked up that habit while growing up in Philadelphia.) Besides, y'all talk funny. (Though not nearly as funny as the Maine guy I work with ... what's with this business of dropping the R's at the end of words, only to add them where they don't belong?) Apropos of very little: saw Springsteen the other night. Through, I'm sure, decades of diligent practice, he sounds more Southern &/or Okie than I (whose parents came from Louisiana & Oklahoma) could ever dream of. Dan, suddenly contrite over repeating that dig in a sports column yesterday about NJ being a big suburb masquerading as a state ... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 20:02:14 -0700 From: "marlon stpeters" Subject: Re: please forgive me if this is an old topic --WIRE in SF > I'm going to catch WIRE in San Francisco , > I see that their are two dates : Great > American on 5/2 and the Filmore on 5/3, I > have never been to either venue and was > wondering what would be the best one to > see? of the 2 choices, go to the great american, its lower polk street(outskirts of tenderloin are) and its an okay area compared to the filmore. saw the sex pistols at the filmore late 70s and it was scary then, its way scary now. looked on ticketmaster for tickets tonight and they have wire listed as "heavy metal", thats a good one. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 20:13:51 -0800 From: Brian Subject: Re: please forgive me if this is an old topic --WIRE in SF Even though musichallsf.com has the date listed and $, they are not selling tickets yet nor are they available through ticketweb.com yet.
