DT, Wot's all this about Austrailia??? Indeed! When I heard Australia being mentioned,my hair rose.I hope Wire do eventually come to Australia. We have not had any decent acts come down here since The Fall toured here in 1990.Maybe Shollac, but I missed their shows.Wire fans do exist in this part of the world even it is more of an underground thing.Reading Stuart's email list containing the set of songs they played at Nottingham certainly left me feeling stranded at not being able to attend these gigs. I think Wire should come out here and certainly kick up a storm. They will kick the arses of NIN,Marilyn Manson,Green Day,Red Hot Chilli Peppers and all that fluff, and hopefully convince the young pseudo alternates and crusties what they have truly been missing out on. Maybe next year's Big Day Out?Perhaps somebody could suggest this to Paul Smith and the boys. So I guess the set will be the same tonight.. See you all there! I've just got back from the RFH gig, and wanted to share some first impressions. I'll have to keep this short, because the internet terminal has reset twice (!) on me when I've typed too long! The opening video was from German television. Classic 1978 Wire. Immersion and He Said were next up. Immersion was Colin and Malka creating swells of hypnotic, trance-like music with abstract video accompaniment - sorta like a moving Swim album cover. Very beautiful. He Said was a trio with Graham on guitar and vocals, a second guitarist, and a gentleman playing a Macintosh Powerbook. New material, heavy industrial sound. Quite striking stuff, indeed. The DJ battle was interesting - they basically created walls of sound out of snippets of late period Wire CDs. Cleansed the palette for Wire, who were introduced by a video clip and live performance of a King in the balcony. (You sorta had to be there for that one...) Kicking off the set with a revamped Pink Flag, Wire then proceeded to play material from all phases of their career - but with just the four of them totally live. No sequencers were in evidence. It was interesting hearing the later material played with only guitars - it was quite effective on material from Snakedrill and The Ideal Copy. A little less effective on material from A Bell Is A Cup. They also played songs from Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and 154. (I'm sure somebody will post a set list soon.) The gig was recorded - I saw 2 ADATs in the rack. When Wire started playing Heartbeat, Michael came out with two other dancers, and did an interpretive dance while they played. Weird, but cool. That song ended the normal set. A video of Drill from an American TV broadcast was next, then we got at least two encores after that. The items for sale? For a package deal of £35.00, you got an embroidered T-shirt, a pink flag in a stand, and the CD. Tracks on the CD are: 1. Pink Flag (rh1) 2. Blessed State 3. Mercy 4. Art of Persistence (1st draft) 5. Pink Flag (rh2) The sound is much like the show - very guitar heavy - no keyboards. Sort of a thicker Chairs Missing, if that makes any sense. The new song, Art of Persistence is pretty good - it would fit on Chairs Missing or 154, if memory serves (I only had a chance to listen to it twice before I entered the hell that is this Internet Kiosk (^_^)) Well, I'm pressing my luck with this note, so I think I'll end it here. When I get to a decent terminal, I'll finish my recollections (or the list will - either way.) Anyway - you're all in for a treat when Wire comes to the States and then plays their next European shows. I had a great time! Take care, Paul ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V3 #46 ******************************
