Do I want to spend my time at the gig holding a tape recorder - no, the only reason it's been necessary is that no one has made 'legit' recordings available. I would also like to add that without someone taping the gigs, an enormous amount of very good music (a lot of it unreleased) would have been lost. Turns and Strokes wouldn't exist either. If Wire are now going to release high quality recordings of their gigs,I've just wasted £270 on a minidisc recorder ;-( Uri ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2000 04:15:52 -0600 From: "charles / wmo" Subject: Re: idealcopy-digest V3 #38 >Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 13:34:16 EST >From: Stengsmith@aol.com >Subject: Tape Trading > >My arm is strong & my reach is long. > Somehow, I feel much better about ... no make that everything! charles wmo@interserv.com http://wiremailorder.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2000 13:03:27 -0600 (CST) From: flaherty michael w Subject: Tapes OK: will anyone (preferably in the US) make a tape of the original (and completely unavailable through Wire-related-anything) MUZI for me? CDR Ok too. That Kevin's offer (or Andrew's) could make anyone angry is laughable. They're not costing anyone anything, just making some people happy. Don't get me started on the economics of exclusive downloads. I'll just make everyone mad at me again. :-) Thanks, Michael Flaherty ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2000 14:20:13 -0600 From: "MackDaddyD" Subject: Re: Tapes > That Kevin's offer (or Andrew's) could make anyone angry is laughable. > They're not costing anyone anything, just making some people happy. Evidently some people don't read or listen (carefully). I expect that if the band asked him not to copy old boots, he would oblige. Kevin's original post was aimed at some unknown (to me ) individual who was adding a surcharge if you will to tapes and CD-Rs. There seems to a an ethical question here - let's face it, no one is getting rich from wire-related merchandise , tho I agree they should have first shot at any profits. There was one post which took me rather by suprise here, stating that show tapers should profit, but it goes to prove there are trolls in avery interest group, just trying to fire up a flame ware. Nice to see everyone refrained. Maybe he'll move on to alt.fan.stone.temple.pilots ;) As to new material - www.pinkflag.com is the place for me. I also tend to buy product from independant retailers and avoid promos when possible (that said I am a sucker for a storewide sale at Tower or a new release by a major artist for under $10). You-all can make your own choices. Anyone booting the upcoming shows will have stiff quality competition from the band. Live taping has become so much more viable since dat-walkmen and all the nice gear and techniques deadheads have worked out. Too bad they have to settle for leftover salmon, while we get a reformed Wire. Ramble on Rose davd __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
