Whilst we understand that there is a desire to hear these recordings we feel that we cannot condone the payment of £6 for a cassette and £9 for a CD-R! Anyone who wishes to obtain live Wire recordings should contact WMO. We will provide you with a list of tapes that we are either willing to trade or offer to record for the following nominal fee: you provide the blank cassette plus £1.00 to cover postage/packaging and electricity. Pretty fair we think, compared to blatant profit making. In the meantime, if the parties concerned can convince us that their profit is being put to good concern we will be only be too happy to help promote your venture. ===== kevin eden wmo, po box 112, stockport, cheshire, sk3 9fd, uk wmouk@yahoo.com http://wiremailorder.com/ "dreams that money can buy" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It is the band's intention to record any & all shows for almost certain official limited release via pinkflag.com We plan to provide a steady flow of items thru wwwpinkflag.com & direct sales at shows & mail order that will satisfy all but the most obsessive completist of Wire fans. Each new stage will be documented & we will offer up only the best quality recordings, sanctioned by the band just as you would expect, if not demand. The very reason we have created www.pinkflag.com is to serve this obvious need, which has (in my oppinion) be ignored & allow those interested to directly follow the progress of the band For the first time EVER the blokes we all claim to admire might make a little money from playing live & the subsequent documentation of their efforts. Wires' reactivity is not driven by any outside record company, & they will only remain active as long as Wire feel they have the freedom to develop & progress without anysuch of the innevitable commercial pressures that relationships with such companies bring., even though said offers are already on the table. You will be literally be taking the bread out of their hands as there will be no big company for you to pretend you are defrauding. We appreciate Kevin bringing this to our attention BUT please note that ANY people, (including WMO) who are making financial gain from trading in bootleg tapes of the band will be dealt with unmost severity. My arm is strong & my reach is long. Neither band nor management deny any fan the comforts of taping for personel use or trading same with others but if I find you selling them and this freindly warning is ignored be sure this privilage will be removed, show security will become r-i-g-o-r-o-u-s, which will also means ticket prices will rise. I'm sure we are all pleased to see the band back (even briefly) in action, and, as an old fan myself I happy to tell you that they are in the best form they have EVER been, & it is this we should be celebrating right now. It is great to see the media acknowledging the work they have done (NME / The Guardian / The Independent / The Wire [a cover story at last] all have, or are, writing pieces in advance of the RFH show). I won't be reading any correspondence on this matter so please don't bother to write back, I DO have a band to manage & I want to be able to concentrate on giving them the best service I can. Throbbing Gristle operated in a similar way in the '70s. Every gig was available on tape. So nobody ever bothered to bootleg them. Also I read it as very positive from the point of view of Wire. A realisation that there may not be that many Wire fans, but we're a loyal bunch. Being in control of their output might keep them working together for longer....who knows. I just hope Mr Smith didn't get the wrong end of the stick.... I've never charged for bootlegs through the Wire Page (except for postage, of course). My general offer is, if you send me blank tapes and return postage, I'll fill them up for you. It doesn't get much easier than that! In practice, people don't trade with me all that often. I get maybe two requests per month, and in most cases they never bother to follow through. There's just not much of a market. I'm a bit surprised that someone is actually selling bootlegs. But, along the same lines, I suspect pinkflag.com is going to have a small live recording output. WMO faced the same problem - there just aren't enough people! I hope pinkflag.com works out. Kevin's live recordings are much higher fidelity than mine! Good luck!
