I suspect that they will be made available at mid-price? i.e. slightly cheaper than you would normally pay for them. I remember when IBTABA was being scheduled with a view to offering a special offer to selected independent stores in the UK (What is known as the Chain With No Name). I asked someone at Rough Trade Dist if they would be doing what they did with 154 i.e. offering a free 7" of unreleased stuff. Rough Trade Dist said that they didn't think there was any unreleased stuff. I find this hard to believe personally. There must be hours of remixes that are locked away somewhere. (For those who don't know, IBTABA came out in the UK with a ltd edition insert in addition to the postcards. THe insert was the postcards on a 12"x12" with each band members signature next to their bit. I think I'm right in saying that the CD didn't have any postcards at all.) And if I can just chip in with a comment on Manscape. Small Black Reptile and Hung your Lights are faves. Don't think Graham's lyrics improve on this album as some have suggested. I think he tries too hard to provied 'social comment' i.e. directly. See Wir Vien for this also. I prefer my Wire lyrics to be as obscure as possible. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 09:24:30 -0800 (PST) From: Wireviews Subject: Re: Wire's Essential Collection Due In January - --- John Roberts wrote: > > what a funny thing to do ; i thought mute kept > everything perpetually available. shame they couldn't have > found some bonus tracks or re-mastering time. As I've mentioned to a few people directly, Mute do have all of these in stock. However, the reason for a reissue must surely be to push these discs to a wider audience once again. In the UK, one usually only finds 154 and Pink Flag, but three years ago most shops had Bell / Ideal Copy. Also, as mentioned, Manscape, First Letter, Drill, and IBTABA will probably fall in price to £7.99 for the first time (unless you shop in HMV, Tower, or Virgin - expect to pay a tenner there! - Go CWNN!!) As for bonus tracks - I would have thought Coatings furnished us with the best of these and anyway, Ideal / Bell / IBTABA / Drill / Manscape / First Letter all had bonus tracks on the CD releases the first time round, most notably Ideal whose length was doubled by them!
