This is my first post. I first learned about Wire from an interview on MTV's 120 Minutes when they were promoting The First Letter. The 3 were being interviewed in the studio. They were all dressed in black looking a bit like Kraftwerk. My favorite albums are Pink Flag and The First Letter. In regards to Manscape's lack of immediacy, I think it's a problem with the production rather than the songwriting. Most of the songs have a similar sound. The melodies are played on uninteresting keyboard presets. The drum machine sounds and programming are also boring (sorry Robert). And the songs lack dynamics (changes in volume). Having said that, I still like the album because of the nice melodies and interesting lyrics. I usually listen to it in headphones at work as background music. It has grown on me quite a bit with repeated listenings. - -Mike F ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Nov 1999 11:32:07 -0500 From: Miles Goosens Subject: Re: Manscape precision lies wrote: > > Greetings all. It struck me at the time like Colin, Bruce, and Graham were striking a taciturn and grim pose just to mess with 120 host Dave Kendall's head -- the more Dave yelped questions about carrying on without Robert, etc., the more hilariously quiet the group got. Or maybe it's just my faulty memory -- haven't seen this since it aired (1992?)... later, listowner Miles ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V2 #226 *******************************
