I really don't have anything of particular importance to say, except a friendly, if customary greeting. I've just signed up. will be going through the archives more thorougly in the near future, but for now it's an obscene time of day (6:30am) and I'm afraid nothing whatsoever will be retained. :> the details of how I discovered the band are probably boring, but it's worth mentioning that I have a special fondness for them because it was really Wire that introduced me to "difficult" pop music. I'm pleased to see a mailing list dedicated to 'em, and also pleased to see other admirable names like the Residents appearing on it here and there, too. have the Mekons been mentioned? incidentally, though, I have to say that Colin Newman's vocal delivery is really something to wonder at the precision and subtlety of. having gotten my paws on the charts for most of the first three albums, I've been taking a stab at playing/singing them. the more I realize what's lacking in my own delivery the more I realize how much there is to the original.... __ mark powers _____________________________________ `` in a black and white life there's a column of smoke you don't burst into flame you stop when you're broke '' ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Oct 1999 14:16:55 -0700 From: "tube disaster" Subject: Re: hello >the details of how I discovered the band are probably boring, but it's >worth mentioning that I have a special fondness for them because it was >really Wire that introduced me to "difficult" pop music. Dunno, but I mention the Meeks all the time on various lists I'm on (Curse is probably one of my favorite 10 albums ever, & Fear & Whiskey, Edge of the World & Rock'n'Roll aren't too far behind).. Are you on their list?
