"Ten Years In One Night (Live)" 2 x CD is available on the Italian label Materiali Sonori (cat number MASO CD 90006). "Joeboy In Mexico" is available on Opcion Sonica (cat number OPCD 48). Also Italian. I have Joeboy and it sounds nothing like any of their other stuff. One to miss I think. Ten Years In One Night is a definite must! Brilliant. Don't know what record shops are like in the states, but I get my stuff from A mail order place here in the UK, and they specialise in importing things - and they are pretty good at it and don't charge the earth! Check out Carbon Disks www.carbondisks.ndirect.co.uk email to data@carbondisks.ndirect.co.uk Steven Brown has recently brought out a sort of best of CD. Can't remember the title but I got it from the company above. Tuxedomoon are definitely underrated. But beware! They have gone through a number of radical changes in style over the years. Ten Years In One Night covers most of them though, so is a good introduction. I, personally prefer their earlier work - "Half-Mute" and "Desire", but am also very fond of the later piece "The Ghost Sonata" - a sort of opera / classical thing. Back to Wire. I listened to the Duet Emmo CD last night - first time for years. Wow. The second track grabbed me so much I had to tape it to listen to in the car this morning. It's strange how you miss things like this first time round! Three bands I like who are recent? Can't even think of one! God, I must be getting old! Or is it that there's still so much really good stuff out there (being re-released) from the seventies and early eighties? Paul KW PS Went to see the Residents the other week in London. Sorry chaps, but that is now the best gig I've ever been to! What a band! Chemical Borthers is definitely a bit ropey. Underworld, on the other hand, is actually rather good. > thought some of the singles weren't bad but i've not > fully heard the albums yet. i loved finitribes " an > unexpectedly groovy treat" (should've been a hit) The latest one from '98, Sleazy Listening, is the best. > i'm working my way slowly around the swim acts , not > got to lobe or silo yet , didn't realise silo were > very "rock". Lobe is probably the best act on Swim~, at least in my opinion! Silo are one of the few bands on Swim~ that have all the "usual" elements: drums, guitar, bass, vocals. Of course, much of the production has been done via sampling, mostly due to the tight repetitious nature of their arrangements. Perhaps "post-rock" is more appropriate, or as Colin would have it "post-everything". I agree with those who say it's not for everyone, however. Certainly liking Wire does not mean you'll like 8 Time (but if you LOVE Dome, you probably will at least "like" it). Eno has had no major releases since Drop. There have been some gallery things and a collection. They put out two albums that made the charts back then, when weird stuff would still make the charts. Recorded a third album that sat in the can til last year. The material sounds like mothing else- 60's music but electro fuzz. check out www.silverapples.com It's not quite up to date, Simeon and Danny are playing in London in about 3 weeks. I think Wire fans, especially 154 era, and He Said fans, would really like this. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 13:34:18 -0700 (MST) From: "M. Second Toughest in the Infants is frickin' ace, and Beaucoup Fish kick all sorts of holes in my head (I've got the eardrum busted!), but there's one on Sire from about 1989 called Change the Weather which is, implicitly, crap. Members of the band Suicide have citied the Silver Apples as having a influence on them. Simeon, who was originally born and raised in New Orleans (where I live), is a real cool artist and guy. The only FT stuff I -haven't- got is the very early stuff (through not knowing about them rather than actively ignoring it). As it stands I still prefer Sleazy Listening, but Unexpected and Sheigra in partiular are both pretty good, although the former has rather too many "versions" on it!
