I came across it by chance in my local record shop. I think the book is pretty interesting, with interviews with each Wirist. And the Italian translations of lyrics would be useful for anyone planning a bel canto Wire tribute. The live CD is from the 1989 UK tour. I saw Wire in Bristol on that tour, and was pretty disappointed. The band looked like they'd rather be somewhere else. And Robert G already was. The Exploded Views CD confirms that memory. On the Punk-as-corporate-soundtrack theme, here in the UK Nike are using the Anti Nowhere League's cover of Ralph McTell's "Streets Of London" to promote their new super store in London. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 15:23:29 +0100 From: paul.rabjohn@ssab.com Subject: the fifteenth (re-issue) there's an ad for this harvest box set in record collector , to coincide with this they are re-issuing 6 classic albums on mid-price. one being , naturally , 154. don't know if it's any different (doubt it) but it'll nice to see it in the shops again. must admit i thought the emi albums had already been issued at mid-price but maybe not. i bought the original slightly different ones , maybe one day i'll go get these re-mastered versions and see if i can tell the difference.p ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Aug 1999 14:40:16 +0100 From: Mark Short Subject: Re: That Italian book paul.rabjohn@ssab.com wrote: > > well i was at that bristol gig too and i really enjoyed it , i saw wire 3 times and for me that was the best one. i really liked that venue , compared to (say)the astoria it was nice and intimate. i mean , colin even put his guitar down and had a dance! did you see them play better? p > I saw Wire at the London Astoria in 1987, supported by Loop. A much more vibrant performance than the 1989 gig at the Bristol Bierkeller. I think the Bristol gig was a disappointment for me because I'd just got "Manscape," which I really liked (and still do) but the material they played live was based on Drill. Also saw Wire as an impressionable teen in 1978 at Malvern Winter Gardens. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 18:03:24 +0100 From: paul.rabjohn@ssab.com Subject: Re[2]: That Italian book ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: That Italian book Author: MIME:mshort@lucent.com at INTERNET Date: 02/08/1999 15:50 paul.rabjohn@ssab.com wrote: > > well i was at that bristol gig too and i really enjoyed it , i saw wire 3 times and for me that was the best one. i really liked that venue , compared to (say)the astoria it was nice and intimate. i mean , colin even put his guitar down and had a dance! did you see them play better? p > I saw Wire at the London Astoria in 1987, supported by Loop.
