The only problem with this theory is that the longest track on HALO with vocals runs 5:20 (most songs between 4-5 minutes), and the longest of the bonus instrumentals is 6:09. Perhaps you should give it another listen. There's plenty of texture, color, and that amazing gibberish vocal on cut 2 (or is that Swedish?). ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 10:23:45 -0500 From: "Mack" Subject: Re: Them Bastards - Into the fray > >i always thought in early wire the way they did it was often colin's music > and graham's lyrics, so you'd think graham was actually more of a "lyric > person". but the lyrics on a-z are brilliant - and the music on he said - hail is amongst my favorite AND Dome's songs cover the ENTIRE range of possibilities (well almost) while I find He Said - Take Care virtually unlistenable , especially lyrically in short - I am incapable of generalizing Colin or Graham as the 'Lyric' or 'Song' guys it might be easier to pigeonhole Bruce as the 'noise' guy based on solo outings, but i wouldn't be too sure even of that perhaps some of this confusion is due to the following quote from the ~swim site "Although Newman was the lead vocalist in Wire he was NOT the main lyricist but rather the main tunesmith. " assuming that mr. newman knows of what he speaks (at least as well as any of us) this still does not say that he is soley or even primarily (yech spelling) a 'song' guy or inarticulate in verse - it is merely a statment of how things worked at a point in time to reiterate my overall position on wire the fact that individually and collectivly they manage to cover so much ground - so well is the main reason i (and i suspect many of you) continue to contribute to this list over and out d ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V2 #100 *******************************
