There's been a long standing argument on this list between the lovers of the more literal Wire and the more experimental Wire. I believe that there in lies the difference between "Bastard" and He Said. I believe that Colin still writes songs, working from the song concept and lyric into a fully realized song. I think Graham probably tacks on the lyrics later, based on the tone of the track. Compelling in it's own way, but not all that memorable.
