A UK Decay retrospective has been overdue for ages, esp. given the fact that they're credited (blamed?) for being a founding father of Goth. (A status that the Mob, actually, could lay a bit of a claim too ... check out Witch Hunt.) I'm lucky enough to own what I think is their debut 7", the Black Cat EP, which I'm told is quite rare. > >. How >about adding Flux of Pink Indians Definitely ... Many people say Sid killed himself after he got out of prison because he was raped, but Johnny Rotten showed up at the taping for his VH1 Pilot with Sid's note to his mom, which contained his last wishes. It included a section about Sid explaining that he had a death pact with Nancy, and that's why he had to do it (overdose). What did John do with the note? He burned it for the taping, along with other valuable Sex Pistols memorabilia. Personally, I think Sid was an idiot who received far more than he ever deserved! He was just an image, and he couldn't play or do very much else for that matter. I have no idea why such a self-destructive poser could be a hero to so many? Any ideas? Robert. == _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Punk means being different from the normal. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Feb 1999 16:14:09 -0800 From: "tube disaster" Subject: Re: More Pistols.. > >Personally, I think Sid was an idiot who received far more than he >ever deserved! Nearly 20 years later, I'm still catching people by surprise when I stick the post-Lydon Pistols' covers of Eddie Cochran's C'mon Everybody & Something Else on mix tapes ... He is the the first true self-destructive figure outside of the mainstream/normal world BUT like Presley was just talentless. You still see bands like Green Day pulling the "I don't give a shit" attitude with spiky hair look. Don't get me wrong he was important but I think punk to me at its best is Gang of Four. A band who truly sounded different and were so visceral and abrasive it still makes me shake. thanks bye Julian ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V2 #29 ******************************
