A couple of slightly facetious points occur: The promo for `B'. Does anyone else remember seeing this on `Multi Coloured Swap Shop' when it came out? I remember the camera cutting back to Noel Edmonds in the studio, and him looking pretty discomfited. (For non-UK subscribers: Edmonds is a spectacularly bland and irritating TV presenter: a former DJ on national radio, whose interest in music was such that he did not even own a record player). Has Robert Gotobed ever been known to speak? What was the point of getting all four members together for the 'Snub' interview and then have him just sit there, looking bored? What does his voice sound like? Is he posh, like Graham; estuarian, like Bruce, or Cockney guttersnipe like Colin? Kevin Eden got some interesting stuff out of him vis a vis how he saw himself in then group - it would be good to know more. It is a shame that the promise of `You have hung your lights...' led to nothing else. And they didn't hang around long without him, did they? Howard PS Robert's lips move in the `In Vivo' promo, but no sound emits... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Dec 1998 16:01:05 -0000 From: "Miles Goosens" Subject: Fwd: The Brood:John Cage (fwd) Another forward meant for the list. Having failed to buy a programme I am not sure exactly what was performed but it was different from the advertised works. Most interesting (for me) Pere Ubu's David Thomas sang Aria simultaneously with another work/works and performers including an inscrutable row of blokes (described in one paper as looking like a group of sixth-formers) including Bruce (!) , sitting behind a long table producing electronic sounds. Having established that there was more dance on the way I was about to leave when Robert Gotobed (unless Budgie has had extensive plastic surgery) appeared and set up a percussive device which looked like a couple of tiles mounted on springs to allow them to resonate. He performed a piece with Susan Stenger and Gavin Bryers. The sixth-formers then returned along with a dance group. And the music ? Well, it sounded like John Cage. I've not posted (anything anywhere) before so I hope I've done this right. Best wishes. Tony. - --------- End Forwarded Message --------- Free web-based email, anytime, anywhere! No, but it was also on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' with another suitably bemused presenter. > Has Robert Gotobed ever been known to speak? >What does his voice sound like? Apparently, he has a similar speaking voice to Bruce, but then I've not heard him speak either. >It is a shame that the promise of `You have hung your lights...' led to nothing > else.
