It was supposed to be a "John Bonnar with Colin Newman" album. But the plans just fizzled. John lived in London and the studio (and Colin) was in Belgium, so... Maybe this could be another WMO release? ;-) (A)ndrew Westmeyer qwerty@cmu.edu www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~qwerty "What a blessing that so much of humanity is able to be alive at the same time as myself." -Cecil Adams ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1998 13:51:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Andrew N Westmeyer Subject: Re: Wire guitar pedals. Excerpts from 22-Oct-98 Wire guitar pedals. by radareyes@webtv.net > Can someone tell me what guitar pedals (effects) did Colin, Bruce, and > Graham use during the years of 1978-1982? Having tapped into the vast Wire databases around the globe, I can give a more definitive answer to this question now. Bruce and Colin used Les Pauls and strats, and Graham had a Fender Jazz bass. For effects, they had MXR distortion, MXR flanger, Music Man combos, and a Trace Elliot. Mike Thorne was big on effects and had a Mutron and some Electro-Harmonix stuff. On the T&S liner, Colin is holding some giant cream-colored guitar, the identity of which I haven't figured out yet. And at some point Graham was using a bizarre-looking headless bass. In other news, Craig has sent me a *ton* of guitar tablature, which I'm adding to the web page. It'll be online late next week. If anyone else has stuff to add, please send it to me. For anyone that is interested. Graham used a bass called "the Rail" by honer? I know it was called the rail, I am not sure who made it. Anyway, you can slide the pickup back along this rail, and I remember him doing this at the filmore show in 87 to "It's a Boy"... Colin was playing the "axe" guitar, I don't know who made that one. Confirmations anyone? Indeed, this was an ovation. The guitarist from a defunct band I was in several years ago also had one, and we called it the "ax". It was a great guitar, and looked even better on my wife pounding away at "Sister Ray" by the Velvets. :) Eric auteur@ix.netcom.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1998 18:27:21 -0500 (CDT) From: radareyes@webtv.net Subject: Re: Wire guitar pedals Thanks for all the info about the pedals etc. Really helpful. I think that round cream coloured looking guitar that Colin used on the Rockapalst show is a Danelectro guitar. You can tell it is a Danelectro by the head and knobs on it. I don't what year or model Danelectro it is. Most of their 60's models were black coloured, so it must be some mid or late 70's model due to it's colour and sort of new wave shape. Syd Barrett used a Danelectro in '66. Thanks again. "1,2,3, beep, beep." James radareyes@webtv.net ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V1 #148 *******************************
