I have been in Bonn in 1988(?) at another "Rockpalast"-show (with Dinosaur jr., New Model Army (if I don't mix that up) et al) and I don't think this show has been broadcasted in TV. The WDR is a public federal Radio / TV-organization, so there might have been a radio transmission. BTW - This show wasn't that good, Robert just drumed about 50%, started and stoped the drum-computer and otherwise swung his balls (as we germans say). - - tB! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 15:35:15 -0500 (CDT) From: radareyes@webtv.net Subject: Wire guitar pedals. Greetings, Can someone tell me what guitar pedals (effects) did Colin, Bruce, and Graham use during the years of 1978-1982? I'm not to worried about what pedal company they used (Vox, Dod, Danoelectro, etc.) but more about what effect pedal they played with (like tone bender, wha-wha, fuzz, etc.??). But if you know what pedal company they used that's even better. The more info the better. Maybe someone can give me all three of their full equipment set-ups from that period (78-82) including what type of guitars, pedals, and amps they used. Thanks. Cheers. 1,2,3, beep, beep James. radareyes@webtv.net ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 17:23:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Andrew N Westmeyer Subject: Re: Wire guitar pedals. I don't think Wire were ever "gearhounds", so their use of effects is minimal. But that won't stop me from guessing! Most of the early stuff probably has a distortion pedal. The version of "Another The Letter" on the TATTTTP bootleg has a phaser pedal, used *very* effectively. And "Map Ref" sounds like a chorus pedal turned up very high. BTW, Wire did some neat things besides just pedals. In "Question Of Degree", Bruce uses a steel slide (a la Bonnie Raitt!). And in "Mercy", Colin does some open string hammer-on's (a la Jimmy Page!). (I got both of these factoids from watching the Rockpalast video.) I've been looking for it for years and recently learned somewhere that it would have included John Bonnar and been Vol. 9 for the label. Having just picked up Vol. 31 (the wonderful "Water" by David Cunningham) I am disapointed to notice in the label's list of releases that there is no Vol. 9. Did this album become something else or did it just disapear? Best, Robert Cambra P.S.
