For those of you who forget, WMO 8CD is our second compilation of Wire covers, this time with 14 artists tackling "Drill". These decidedly "electric" versions were then handed to Mark Gage aka Vapourspace (London/ffrr) to assemble into one continuous mix. The results? Fantastic, if we don't say so ourselves! WMO 11CD is the long awaited reissue of the 1983 Gilbert/Lewis "band" project P'o, with A.C. Marias, David Tidball and Peter Price. Originally released by the Dome subsidiary Court label, WMO is releasing the CD reissue with six bonus tracks plus the full version of "I Will". Details maybe had at http://wiremailorder.com/ To order request a catalog by sending e-mail to catalog@wiremailorder.com UK and other customes who wish to pay in Pounds Sterling ($#163;) ukcatalogue@wiremailorder.com Orders are now being accepted! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Sep 98 10:28:58 -0400 From: Subject: Re: DRILL DRILL DRILL >These decidedly >"electric" versions were then handed to Mark Gage aka Vapourspace >(London/ffrr) to assemble into one continuous mix. The results? Fantastic, >if we don't say so ourselves! Does this mean that all the individual pieces will fall under only one track listing on the album (like "Themes from Vapourspace"), or are there division points between them? There's nothing worse than wanting to listen to something at the end of a 60 or 70 minute CD and having to FF through the whole thing to get to it! But I suppose if need be I can deal with it... I think it's a wonderful album, although I am interested in hearing the original vocals for it that Colin recorded then later removed. "May", "Spaced In", "The Orange House and the Blue House", and "Turn" are my favorite pieces on it. His "Voice" e.p. stands out in my book as being even better; it's a great deal more complex. I won't pretend I love it, but I do like it. One thing I really like about Bastard is that it has made me start listening to his old albums more closely. No, he's not as instrumentally inventive as Graham and Bruce, and yes, I hope he sings next time. But I think Bastard was a worthwhile experiment. > It amazed me to learn that Colin did not write Wire's lyrics, since his own > albums were always more "verbal" than Lewis's or Gilbert's, either separately > or as Dome. But if you compare Wire lyrics to Newman lyrics, they are quite different. It seems to me like Colin's lyrics are more direct somehow. Of course, that's a generalization of which there are plenty of exceptions, but GENERALLY I find Graham's lyrics more ambiguous--and this carries over to Dome. Michael Flaherty PS It's a small list that comes and goes--usually very active or completely dead. I actually think the dead spots are helpful: how many times can we list or favorites or whatever? ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V1 #129 *******************************
