When the four of them played together to celebrate Bruce's 50th B-day, they were Wire - not in name, but signified by semaphores. The band refers to Wir as "W" "I" "R". The sleeve was Russ's design, so I doubt it had anything to do with Colin's trip to India. charles - -------------------------------------------- wmo@interserv.com http://wiremailorder.com/ catalog@wiremailorder.com updated: June 29, 1998 - -------------------------------------------- ***new mailing address*** Wire Mail Order PO Box 29133 Los Angeles, CA 90029-0133 - -------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 14:34:11 -0500 (CDT) From: flaherty michael w Subject: Re: the first letter/number On Thu, 27 Aug 1998, Stephen Harper wrote: > One a related note, does any other list member believe that Wire were > so good in the 80s that Colin must have had access to arcane knowledge > about the arts during his Indian experience, perhaps fasting for days > on end and living in a hut? Well, let me quickly clarify lest my comment be misinterpreted: Wire 1977-80 and Wir(e) 1986-1992 are both big winners in my book, so I usually have a difficult time understanding the positions of those who strongly prefer one or the other. I don't want to start the rate-the-albums thread again, but then again I don't recall if I played the first time, so here's my own rough ranking of the catalog: ABSOLUTE CLASSIC MASTERPIECES 1) A Bell Is a Cup 2) Chairs Missing 3) The Ideal Copy 4) 154 ALMOST AS GOOD 5) Pink Flag 6) The First Letter SUFFERS ONLY BY COMPARISON TO THE OTHER SIX 7) Manscape None of them would get less than 3 1/2 stars from me. later, listowner Miles ====================================================================== "If a million people say a stupid thing, it is still a stupid thing." -- Anatole France Miles Goosens outdoorminer@mindspring.com http://www.mindspring.com/~outdoorminer/miles ====================================================================== ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V1 #114 *******************************
