The "words" don't tell a story, or at least not one that I have been able to find. Like Mr. Gilbert's music, The Harring is more about the juxtapostion of sound, and his love of sound in itself, than it is about any type of organised structure. Imagine a longer, more literate Revolution #9. The two stories at the end of the piece (real accounts from Gilbert's parents) are very interesting--Gilbert surrounds them with some wonderful ambient noise. In the main piece, some of it is Gilbert's own voice (I love to hear him read) others are just various recordings, including telephone messages. According to WMO, it will soon be out of print. Hope this helps, Michael ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 May 1998 13:50:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Andrew N Westmeyer Subject: t-shirts and the exhibit The mystery of the t-shirts has been more or less resolved. There are still some "The A List" t-shirts left. They're long-sleeved and have an "A" on the front and "The A List" on the sleeve. They're 16 pounds (UK) each plus shipping. How much is shipping? you may ask. I haven't a clue. You can mail them a cheque made out to "Wire Merchandising". BTW, the other three designs have already sold out. Presumably these shirts won't be reprinted. Maybe we should make a WMO t-shirt to celebrate the release of the P'o album? :) In other news, I have a report from the field regarding the Wire exhibit in London: - --- I think the show works well, it's minimal enough to not look cluttered in the very small space and as the items are un-annotated they are devoid of context for an unenlightened viewer which gives the thing a nicely abstract air. The usual suspects turned up at the opening, besides Bruce & Colin were Juliet (Grahams first wife), Edwin (who directed the "ahead" video), Kevin Eden, Dave Copenhall (& Maggie his missus), Akin Fernandes (from Irdial), one of the guys from These records, Ted Milton (strangely), Russel Haswell & Dave (moon boy), Soren & Fred (from Silo). Everyone got reasonably pissed (some more than others) those that refused the only onsite tipple of gin made up for it in the pub afterwards. - --- (A)ndrew Westmeyer qwerty@cmu.edu www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~qwerty "What a blessing that so much of humanity is able to be alive at the same time as myself." -Cecil Adams ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 May 1998 13:11:19 -0500 From: "Mack" Subject: Re: t-shirts and the exhibit >BTW, the other three designs have already sold out. The shirts are currently being held by Swim, so you can send all your money to them. Their address is PO Box 3459, London SW19 6ES, England. Pay by UK cheque, Eurocheque, IMO, or UK postal order; no cash.
