While talking to some other people, I had a couple thoughts I wanted to post to the group. Has anyone ever seen a Wire t-shirt? Did they ever make concert shirts? They might have, since they toured with Depeche Mode, who are at no loss for such things. The other thought is more humorous. Remember how in the movie Spinal Tap, Nigel leaves the band and David says how 23 (or whatever) people have been in Tap over the years. Well, I was wondering, how many "unofficial Wires" have there been? The most obvious one to include is Mike Thorne. Maybe we could count George Gill, but I suspect "Wire" started when they booted him. It is white and says Wire in black, and is surrounded by alot of electronic looking lines in green and red. I am almost certain that it's unoffical. I have never seen anything for sale at a Wire concert, but then, it's not like I've seen every tour ..... They don't really strike me as the merchandise types. Maybe Wire Mail Order knows? (My bet is that if they were available WMO would already have them.) Michael ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Apr 1998 18:23:31 -0800 From: "Thom S. I found, and bought, one at a now-defunct record store in Portland, OR in '92... black w/ 4 pix, one of each member (these photos are also in Eden's book Everybody Loves A History, I believe), with WIRE in blue over them. Don't know if this was an official t-shirt release. > The other thought is more humorous. Would the criterion be co-writing or co-arranging a Wire song? - -- _ _ _ Thom Heileson //)) //^~ heileson@u.washington.edu ((// // http://weber.u.washington.edu/~heileson University of Washington School of Art Center for Advanced Research Technology in the Arts and Humanities [CARTAH] 206.543.4218 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Apr 1998 18:59:45 -0700 From: rivethead & soup_99 Subject: Re: Wire Tap Andrew N Westmeyer wrote: > Boy, this list seems to go crazy for a while then drop dead.. How about some comments on the Wire article in Raygun? I found it interesting that Colin likes Tortoise, and I'm curious to see what bands might be added to the ~swim roster. Thought it was alright considering its brevity. Someone mentioned the not-so-readable quality of the layout... I come to expect that with Raygun, one of the pioneer magazines in terms of design-over-substance. (part of me is annoyed by this, and part - the design enthusiast part - entertained by it, though I do prefer more minimal designs usually) In these terms, I don't think the Wire article was much worse than most their layouts. Anyway, just thought that I'd point out that I saw a resemblance - I would hope a conscious reference - in that layout to the layout of the song lyrics in the cassette insert for 154: the diagonal columns of text. Anyone else notice this?
