It usually takes me at least 4 listens before an album sinks in and I usually decide it is the best they ever id. This time tho I had to listen many more times. It was not what I was expecting at all. However, it did sink in and I really love this album. of course it is different. How could it not be considering the changes within herself since LNS? Cancer changes people. It changed her and she wrote about it. The only song I really dislike is the last one, In Honour Of You,George. Scar is beautiful. We Your Dearest Friends is excellent and not about JT. Rather it is about fairweather friends. I particulalry like the edge to her voice on this track. Actress is funny and again not about herself totally(it is based on an overheard converstion between two young hopefulls). She has lost none of her wit or song writing ability. As often her words are cutting, bitchy, amusing, sad. This is not a light album and I think it couldn't be expected to be. I also can't really compare it to her earlier works as it is so different. I like the fact that this one is not so full blown, production wise, and there are no belters on it. VChristpher, i think, spoke of LNS and his two favourites being Like A River and Touched By The Sun. I'd add Lost In Your Love to that. Touched is one of my all time favourite songs by anyone. Coming Around Again, whilst it contains dsome good tracks, is too commercial pop for my taste and her least personal in my view. It will be interesting to see where she goes from here. I read a review by a pratt who had obviously not listened to it as he said there was no melody(!) and was full of self pity. he just didn't get it.(mind you this same person wrote reviews of other cd's and films and was negative about all them-trying to boost his own self in the wrting of them). - -- bw colin colin@tantra.fsbusiness.co.uk http://www.geocities.com/tantra_apso/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 07:02:48 EST From: PaulUK1974@aol.com Subject: Re: The Bedroom Tapes Hi I love The Bedroom Tapes, it my personal favourite album by Carly. The album is well written and contains some of the most emotionally charged songs by Carly. I love many of the songs, amongst my favourites are Whatever Became Of Her. The lyrics to this song are amazing - they paint a perfect picture of the scene's taking place. Prior to this album I've never really liked a complete Carly album, I've always liked certain tracks but never a whole album, The Bedroom Tapes is the first Carly album that I can honestly say that I love every track. Take care everyone and have a really great Christmas and New Year! :-) Bye for now Paul :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 13:58:41 +0100 From: SOTO ARES Gustavo Subject: TBT+Xmas Hi Paul and everyone, It's very nice to have a post at last !! I totally agree with you concerning Whatever became of her, because it's my favoruite song too. I also agree with you because i'd allways thought that a perfect "whole album" was difficult to find. There is allways one song that brokes the work as a whole. The last album is really great, even if when i'm listening to it, i turn down some of the songs (actress..). Merry Christmas for you and for everybody in this mailing list.
