I do know the Carly Forum on the JT Online, but I have so little spare time. This Colin's mailinglist suits me better. I have been listening to Carly's albums on vinyl like Colin did. And it has been a quite interesting experience. Spoiled Girl has never been my fave. The songs are good, but that arrangement (disco beat) has always troubled me. And in Interview Carly is so cynical, that I felt always sad and hopeless when I was listening to that song. Usually I get power, confidence and comfort from Carly's songs. But now I'm older and even this album seems to be ok. The disco beat doesn't trouble me anymore (not much anyway), and I can take that Interview-cynicism almost like nothing... almost but not quite. But I remember well "Spoiled girl", and i felt like you when i heard it for the first time. I was almost angry against Carly because she'd felt into the disco-wave (even if I love very much disco-music) and that wasn't her. But, happily, "Anyone but me" was there, and just for this song, I loved the album. Today, everything is different, we have grown, and we have another view of things, even of music, and one thing is sure: Carly's music is great !!!!! I remember well also, that at those times, I din't understand most of the Carly's lirics. A friend of mind who speaks english better than I did (and a very great fan of Carole King...), told me that Carly's lirics were no interesting enough compared with Carole. Well, I adore Carole King also but, firstable there is no place to comparison and now, even if my english isn't good enough, I think that most of Carly's lirics are wonderfull. We've have talk about that, last week on Carly's forum. I'll like to know your opinion of what are the really meaning of songs like "Memorial day", "Sons of summer", "Libby", "In times when my head", and/or "Love you by heart" ? Waiting your point of view.... BW, Gus. ------------------------------ End of hotcakes-digest V3 #74 *****************************
