I think it's this album that brought her more of a distinctive sound and certainly began her most creative years. I don't have all of Carly's work, but I do have a few older albums that predate Coming Around Again, including Spoiled Girl, Hello Big Man, Torch, Come Up Stairs, and Another Passenger. I also have the Clouds In My Coffee CD set and my personal opinion is that Carly's music seemed to take a great leap when she made Coming Around Again. Do The Walls Come Down is incredible and extremely haunting, and upto that point of the albums I've heard it's certainly her finest. I think the album set the ground for what was to come. Out of all Carly's albums, 'Hello Big Man' seems to be the least mentioned, and also one of the rarest to find. Did this album fail to sell? Does anyone know? Take care everyone Paul. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2000 01:43:54 EDT From: B4INSF@aol.com Subject: Carly Fans...around the world... To Carly fans back East, USA (and everywhere around the world), Anyone out there hearing SMS being played in regular rotation?...It has not made it to the Bay Area, California...from what I have heard. (It is a song worthy of so much more, from ARISTA than it received.) Whatever the next single is...IF there is one...without some REAL label promotion it will not move...(unless it catches on with DJ's and they buck the system and play it as an album cut...I'm old enough to remember those days, too! DJ's actually took pride in 'discovering' songs..) I am thankful that Carly wrote, recorded, produced and released a CD without regard or pressure to be 'commercial' from a LABEL. When I listen, I hear hits....but...I am not in the Bizz I am glad Carly is seemingly content with everything as it is, according to the London article....But, oh how I wish TBT would have had some creative promotion... The songs on TBT paint such vivid pictures that they all seem to look foward to something visual... Dear Carly, Pick your favorite song. Make a video unencumbered by LABEL expectations and go on a Video Promoting Tour! My favorite single/video/mini-series/movie of the week...:-) continues to be BDG.... bill ------------------------------ End of hotcakes-digest V3 #47 *****************************
