I've just received the album because I'm currently collecting Carly's catalogue and I don't think it's a bad album. I think most of it pretty much stands the test of time, the only problem with some of the tracks is that Carly's voice gets a little lost on them because of the production but on a whole it's really not bad album at all. In my opinion probably the best track is 'My New Boyfriend', but many of them are pretty good. Does anyone know how Carly feels about the album now? Has she grown to like? It's surprising after listening to the album that it didn't sell at the time because it's the sort of thing that should have worked well at the time. How does everyone else on the list feel about this album? Take care everyone Paul. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 15:06:06 +0200 From: SOTO ARES Gustavo Subject: Spoiled Girl Hello everyone, Spoiled Girl wasn't one of my favs, because it was no really a Carly style CD. It was over-produced and so influenced by the dance-disco sounds of earlies 80. Nevertheless is a good CD in this style of music. Most of songs are good, but for me, the best is "Anyone but me", one of the best songs of Carly ( I don't remember whether she writes the music or only words). I remember very well those times. I lived in Spain. I liked so much this song, enough to call the radio station answering to play it. It was probably the first step to my Carly-fan attitude. The radio station has never play that song, and they proposed an "another song-writer's song: Neil Young". I was very dissapointed. Have a nice WE. Gus. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 14:33:03 +0100 From: catman Subject: re:Spoiled Girl I really like it. Some excellent ttracks tho. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 16:26:29 +0100 From: catman Subject: fromJim.Nemeth@infores.com (Still trying to post correctly....) LOVE SPOILED GIRL! My favorite song (and one of my all-time fave Carly songs is CAN'T GIVE IT UP. COME BACK HOME, TIRED OF BEING BLONDE and the title song are other faves. Don't know why this didn't do better either....it had the potential for a hit! I remember playing the 45 of "Tired Of Being Blonde" for weeks and anticipating the album and I wasn't disappointed. I was really sort of put off that Carly made that remark because I think that despite its commercial success, it's a fine album. And yet it was trashed by reviewers at the time, and it was a commercial failure. "The Wives Are In Connecticut" is fun, "My New Boyfriend" should have been a huge hit (if people had any taste :-) and "Anyone But Me" is among her finest songs I think. "Make Me Feel Something" and "Come Back Home" are also both excellent. In fact, the only weaknesses to my ears are the back to back songs, "Tonight And Forever" and the title song. As far as, "Coming Around Again" being the "least Carly" album, I'd have to disagree - I think it's the quintessential Carly album. How can any album with "Two Hot Girls (On A Hot Summer Night) and "Do The Walls Come Down" *not* be considered a typical Carly album. And the hits from the album couldn't be more Carlyesque to me. If I had to choose the least Carly-like album, I'd probably choose the first album because of all of her albums, I find it the least interesting, the least impressive, except for the obvious hit "That's The Way..." and "Dan, My Fling" there's not much that really captures me. O.k., "One More Time" is fun... Back to "The Bedroom Tapes" now... Scott :) > LOVE SPOILED GIRL! My favorite song (and one of my all-time fave > Carly songs is CAN'T GIVE IT UP.
