Precisamente por considerá-la tão cruel e bárbara, Portugal foi um dos primeiros paises a proibir a morte do touros nas touradas (1928). Agora, em 1999, vários deputados de diferentes partidos (comunistas, socialistas e partido popular) todos envolvidos com atividades de touradas prepararam uma estratégia politica para trazer de volta a matança. Dear friends, Please read the following announcement and request: LETHAL BULLFIGHTING IN PORTUGAL On the 14th of April, the Portuguese Parliament will vote on legalising the killing of bulls in Portuguese bullfights. Precisely because it was considered such a cruel event and a barbaric one, Portugal was one of the first countries in the world to prohibit the death of bulls in bullfighting (1928). Now, in the year 1999, various deputies from different parties (communist, socialist and from the "Popular Party" (Partido Popular) ), each one with involvement in bullfighting activities, have prepared a political strategy that is highly likely to succeed and that would reinstate lethal bullfighting. It is of the utmost importance that from all over the world, these parties receive vigorous rebuke for the fact that on the cusp of the 21st century, Portugal would be legalising what it already put a stop to for its cruelty 71 years ago.
