Here in this big city (~ 5 million people in metro area) many around my age (40) know many US and UK or english singers/composers/groups... but very, very few know Carly. I just love her since 1972 but many who knew her music back then just don't remember her anymore... I had a party a few weeks ago with some friends from high school and they were playing '70s music in english... So of course I mentioned Carly and NO-ONE remembered her. So I went to our car and picked up a CD and we played it. It was Greatest Hits and it was until then that SOME said "Ah, Yes" she was that girl, and I said "she still is singing/composing... they could't beleive that... Those who remember her have had never listened to her music later than 1980. So, she is great, for sure... The best, or one of the best, voices I ever heard. But her popularity is less than others, including James Taylor and Carole King. Why? I don't know. I prefer Carly but, a fact is a fact. And we continued listening to Chicago, Air Supply, America, Kansas, Cat Stevens, The Bee Gees, The Carpenters, etc. etc. etc. many more Pop music. Besides, Carly has the right to think "well done... now I deserve some rest and family life" why not? Tears may fall from my eyes in Nostalgia but if I try some empathy then I will understand why she did it (if she ever will).
