Congratulations and thanks, Colin! Like most of you, I have been scanning the JT Online and Ziva sites without much success. This board is much livelier--hope it stays that way! I've been a Carly fan since 1971. I'm originally from the US but now live in New Zealand, where they tend to play Carly's older material. I bought Anticipation, loved it, then bought her first album and everything since, except for Clouds in My Coffee. The US/New Zealand exchange rate is putting me off a bit on buying a 3-CD boxed set at the moment, so it's been great reading the digest and seeing that other folks recommend it. It's definitely on my 'must get' list, but that shouldn't be a surprise! I enjoyed Film Noir, but probably because I'm a sucker for strings and standards (like Carly) and she really knows how to wring out the emotion from these old chestnuts. Her version of Lili Marlene is great and shows off her 'mature' voice to advantage, especially when she finishes with "My Lili of the lamp..light". She's great on those low notes (Colin, I know you'll agree), and I haven't heard her get that low down since the last note on "No Secrets". I also liked the way that she incorporated part of "Haunting" into "Laura". Van Dyke Parks and Jimmy Webb are fabulous collaborators. Anyway, I look forward to corresponding with you all. Cheers Nancy Fithian ------------------------------ End of hotcakes-digest V1 #78 *****************************
